The Director of Camp manages and oversees the Council’s year-round camp programs; promotes and implements camping opportunities to girls and adults including theme weekends; promotes, negotiates and manages the program portion of camp rentals or leasing arrangements at Camp Kaufmann.
§ Oversee and manage the onsite development, implementation and execution of year-round camping including budget and fiscal oversight, funding initiatives and all programmatic components.
§ Coordinate activities for Troop Camping, Summer Camping, Theme Camping and Resident Camping.
§ Recruit, hire and supervise staff, volunteers and consultants for each camp season. Oversee Counselor-in-Training Program. Supervise the Camp Program Associate.
§ Assure the adherence of ACA, Department of Health and County standards and policies when implementing outdoor programs at Camp Kaufmann.
§ Promote and deliver Council-wide camp opportunities and related training in boroughs and service units in conjunction with membership staff and volunteer trainers.
§ Develop Girl Scout program materials, necessary forms and confirmation packets and other resources that reflect the identified needs of girls.
§ Research and write program content for Council Newsletters, Troop Resource Guide and other Council publications, regarding camp activities, as well as writing the camp publication(s).
§ Oversee the camp registration/confirmation process assuring that this process is executed in a timely manner.
§ Act as liaison to the volunteer Camp Site Directors, providing support and guidance as they provide campsite support, training and guidance to volunteers and girls attending camp.
§ Prepare regular analysis and reports of camp programs, based on Council goals and objectives, including comparative statistical analysis.
§ Responsible for the administration of the camp’s trading post, including purchasing, inventory control, staffing and financial reporting.
§ Attend and participate in regular management meetings, staff team meetings and represent camp programs at Council meetings.
§ Reach out to external groups to lease Camp Kaufmann for rental income and manage the program-related arrangements for their stays.
§ Complete other duties, as assigned.
§ Three to five years or more previous experience in developing, implementing and managing camp programs and activities.
§ College degree required. Bachelors Degree at minimum.
§ Prior experience implementing camp and outdoor certification processes. ACA certification a plus.
§ Demonstrated skills in planning, organizing, managing and multi-tasking.
§ Ability to manage time, work independently (onsite at camp will be 40-50% during the winter and 90-100% during the summer), provide customer service and troubleshoot situations.
§ Creativity, vision, leadership and the ability to supervise and motivate staff and volunteers.
§ Excellent writing skills and communication skills.
§ Computer literate, with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
§ Subscribe to the beliefs and principles of the Girl Scout movement.
