About Texas Fair Defense Project

Texas Fair Defense Project is a small but growing nonprofit legal organization that fights to end the criminalization of poverty. Our office environment is collaborative, mission-focused, and fast-paced. We work closely with clients, advocates, policymakers, and allies to provide direct services to low income Texans and push for greater systemic change through policy advocacy, education, and impact litigation. • Helping to build coalitions with advocacy groups, membership organizations, and other stakeholders; and
  • Conducting rigorous policy research and drafting memoranda, factsheets, reports, and other advocacy materials.

  • Experience working alongside systems-impacted individuals;
  • Knowledge of and passion for racial and social justice issues, including at the intersection of the criminal legal system;
  • Digital proficiency in Google Drive, Zoom, and Microsoft Office; and
  • The ability to manage and juggle various tasks and deadlines and the flexibility to handle the demands of the 2021 legislative session.

Salary is commensurate with experience and will be between $50,000 and $65,000, plus benefits. People of color, people who have been directly impacted by the criminal legal system, and people from other underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
