The Math Department at Emma Willard School seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated instructor to join a highly-collaborative, innovative mathematics department for the 2018-19 school year. The full-time Computer Science and Math instructor reports to the Math Department Chair. S/he will teach two sections of math and two sections of computer science. S/he should be able to teach a range of math courses (algebra I through calculus) and a range of computer science courses including AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles and courses of his/her own design. S/he will be responsible for leading computer-science related co-curricular activities and will be charged with establishing a First Tech Challenge robotics club. S/he will work with the Signature program to provide management of computer-science related Signature projects. The Math and Computer Science Instructor will lead the active review and creation of scope and sequence for the computer science courses, and will work collaboratively with the math faculty to ensure an integrated and cohesive mathematics and computer science curriculum. Dedication to the holistic wellness of students is essential, as is ability and comfort in frequent communication with students’ advisors and parents.
The ideal candidate would hold a master’s degree in computer science and/or mathematics and have a minimum of three years of teaching experience. The candidate should demonstrate excellence in course design, planning and implementation. S/he should have a strong desire to contribute to a collaborative faculty. The candidate should have patience, enthusiasm and the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines. The candidate should be a strong advocate for all-girls’ education. Finally, this individual should approach their work with a sense of humor and joy. Special consideration may be given to candidates with interest and ability in athletic coaching.
