About OneWorld Now!

OneWorld Now! (OWN) is an educational nonprofit with 20 years of experience providing language instruction, leadership development, and study abroad opportunities to primarily low-income youth of color in the Seattle area and across the country through online programs.

As part of our after-school or summer program, students can earn high school world language credit by studying Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Arabic, or Russian. They can also opt to participate in credit-bearing Leadership workshops and apply to study abroad in South Korea, Morocco, or Russia.

OneWorld Now!’s vision is that all youth have access to transformative international education opportunities. To help ensure this, all OneWorld Now! programs are priced on a sliding scale based on family size and income.

OneWorld Now! is committed to being an anti-racist organization and to supporting our youth, staff, and community in our collective, ongoing learning of how we can dismantle all systems of oppression.

About the Role

OneWorld Now! is seeking an energetic, organized, and dedicated individual to join our program staff as the Leadership Program Manager. This position is an opportunity for you to make your mark on redefining OWN’s Leadership program for the future, while simultaneously providing space to foster internal leadership development for other staff members in the organization. After many years of having part-time staff working in the Leadership program, OWN is now investing in a full-time position, with the goal of strengthening and reimagining what our Leadership program can be. This position will also have opportunities for advancement within the organization.

This role will oversee all aspects of OWN’s Leadership program, including curriculum development, workshop planning and execution, and mentorship of students who serve as peer mentors in the program.

Currently, Leadership workshops in our after-school and summer programs use the experiential learning cycle to build social, emotional, and intercultural skills through a social justice lens. The Leadership Program Manager will lead the existing Leadership program in the coming school year while also beginning the work of expanding and reimagining the program.

Main Responsibilities:

  • PROGRAM DESIGN & PLANNING
  • Work collaboratively with staff and students to plan and prepare for weekly Leadership workshops.
  • Update and design workshop curriculum taking into consideration OneWorld Now!’s existing workshops, previous experience with curriculum design, and other new resources.
  • Set specific goals and learning outcomes for individual workshops and the Leadership curriculum as a whole, and design evaluation tools to ensure goals are being met.
  • Set criteria for awarding credit to students in the Leadership program.
  • Coach students in the planning and running of Get Global, our annual student-organized leadership conference that has historically been the capstone of the Leadership program.
  • Conduct all communication related to leadership, including weekly reminder emails.

  • WORKSHOP FACILITATION
  • Lead and support workshop activities in-person for about 30-60 students. Due to ongoing uncertainty around COVID, enrollment numbers are currently an estimate. Online workshops may also be offered for a similar number of students.
  • Develop, support, and counsel student peer mentors.
  • Coordinate and manage support from other staff, volunteers, and interns at Leadership workshops.
  • Maintain student attendance records at each leadership session.
  • Co-facilitate leadership-based workshops as part of pre-departure for study abroad.

  • PROGRAM EXPANSION
  • Develop new ways of delivering Leadership programming (e.g. integrating leadership curriculum into OWN language classes, developing partnerships with other youth-serving organizations).
  • Develop plan for engaging more OWN students in the Leadership program.
  • Collaborate with Director of Study Abroad to develop new strategies for integrating leadership principles into study abroad programs.

  • INTERNAL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
  • In partnership with the Executive Director, play a lead role in internal leadership development for OWN staff and teachers, specifically by spearheading ongoing professional development focused on DEI and student support.

  • OTHER
  • Opportunities to co-lead study away programs
  • Assist with recruitment and develop relationships with students by attending in-person recruitment events at local schools as well as virtual presentations.
  • Collaborate with all staff to undo institutional and structural racism through ongoing collective training, education, and self-reflection
  • Serve as an excellent ambassador for OneWorld Now! at all times both formally and informally
  • Participate in staff meetings and retreats
  • Perform other administrative duties that assist in the smooth running of OneWorld Now! programming

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years working in youth leadership development
  • Understand the importance of youth development work in creating positive social change
  • Experience facilitating workshops and trainings for high school students OR other relevant youth development experience.
  • Experience designing student-centered, interactive workshops and/or curricula, with a particular focus on anti-racism, anti-oppression, social identity development, intercultural competence, global citizenship, and related topics
  • Experience working with diverse groups of youth, and ability to forge strong, safe, trusting relationships with youth.
  • Passionate commitment to racial, social, and economic justice; familiarity with or interest in frameworks of social justice education and anti-racism work.
  • Sensitivity to and respect for diverse cultures and different communication styles.
  • Detail-oriented
  • Adaptable and open to feedback, learning, and growth
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.

Preferred Characteristics:

  • Experience with or interest in youth civic engagement, advocacy, or community organizing.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience working with public schools.
