Overview

The MAVEN Project envisions a world with universal access to quality health care. To make this vision a reality, we recruit an experienced corps of volunteer medical specialists and connect them with frontline primary care providers at community health centers nationwide via telehealth. This enhances providers’ capacity to deliver comprehensive care to underserved patients by utilizing expert consultation, mentoring, and education provided by physician volunteers. The MAVEN Project is now at a critical inflection point: the COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare the very structural barriers to health care access the organization seeks to address, brought significant attention to provider shortages, and catalyzed a meteoric rise in telehealth adoption and usage. We anticipate the need for our services will grow exponentially over the next 2 years, driven by a combination of continued economic destabilization, permanent job and employer-sponsored insurance loss, provider shortages exacerbated by burnout, and nationwide diminished health outcomes resulting from delayed care and post-covid complications. 

The Role 

At a moment when we seek to significantly increase our impact to meet growing national need, The MAVEN Project is looking for a Development Associate to join our team. This is an opportunity for an early career professional interested in building their skills in development, research, operations, and nonprofit management. The Associate will play a crucial role in driving prospect research, ensuring CRM data integrity, and supporting the Director of Development in fundraising efforts. Working closely with the CEO and the Director of Development, you will be responsible for leading all prospect research (including leads vetting), managing donor data in our CRM (Salesforce), supporting the Director in creating and disseminating materials for donors, managing donor stewardship calendars, and supporting on all aspects of grants management and reporting. The successful candidate has previous experience working in a development, research, and/or operations role. They are also an organized self-starter with excellent written and spoken communications skills, and is able to work both independently and as part of a team. This role reports to the Director of Development.

Responsibilities

The Associate leads on key development and fundraising efforts and is responsible for the bodies of work described below:

Prospect Research

• With the Director, prioritize and lead research on prospective institutional and individual donors 
• Manage the leads process by vetting and prioritizing leads generated by CEO, Board of Directors, Staff, and Stakeholders
• Conduct and review monthly wealth screening reports of existing contact records, and; present findings and updates to Development Director and CEO
• Identify opportunities for improving research practices and proactively implement enhancements
• As needed, join prospecting meetings with the Director of Development, CEO, and Board members 

Development Operations

• With the Director of Development, implement development operations in accordance with philanthropic best practices
• Help drive adoption of best practices across staff

Frontline Fundraising Support

• Help Director of Development manage donor reporting and correspondence, including maintenance of a donor communications calendar
• As needed, support Director of Development in compiling materials and information for donor-facing reports
• As needed, support on writing donor-facing materials such as donor newsletters and appeals
• Track metrics for donor touchpoints and communications 
• As needed, support on event preparation and management

Data Management  

• Oversee entry of all donor data into CRM, including new opportunities and updating existing records
• Ensure CRM generated donor emails lists are segmented properly and integrating into MailChimp effectively
• Conduct monthly quality control sweeps to ensure all records are up-to-date and accurate
• Run Salesforce reports to support frontline fundraising efforts
• Develop and implement a research profile repository in Dropbox
• Develop and implement a standard Dropbox taxonomy for development folders and ensure all folders are up-to-date and accurate

Experience, Abilities & Skills

The ideal candidate brings 2+ years professional experience to this role (education counts toward experience). They are organized and can manage multiple projects at once toward competing deadlines. They are a skillful communicator with a deep commitment to the organization’s mission and a genuine desire to engage donors in transforming health care through collective investment and action. They also have a sense of humor, are attentive to evolving trends and proactively work to align development with emerging best practices, issues, and interests. They also exhibit the following:

• Bachelor’s degree or 2+ years of relevant experience.
• Dedication to the mission of The MAVEN Project.
• Great communicator in all formats (in person, voice/video, writing). 
• Possess the interpersonal skills to engage/work with diverse stakeholders.
• Possess strong research skills. 
• Self-starter able to prioritize effectively and move multiple priorities toward on-time completion simultaneously. 
• Interest in building skill sets in research, operations, data management, and development. 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, PowerPoint), File Management (Dropbox), and Video Conferencing (Zoom). Experience working with Salesforce a plus. 
• Interest in learning Email Marketing Management Software (MailChimp, Constant Contact), CRM and Portfolio Management Software (Salesforce), Wealth Screening Tools (Windfall, iWave), and Analytics.
• Possess a strict sense of confidentiality, discretion, and respect for information privacy.

Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $45,000 - $55,000 commensurate with experience. The MAVEN Project offers a complete benefit package including health, disability, and life insurance; paid time off including vacation, sick, and holiday leave; a 403(b)retirement plan; and a remote-friendly work environment.  

Schedule

Most of this work can be done virtually/remotely, particularly during the COVID-19 crisis where in-person work poses unnecessary risks. We are committed to creating a flexible, safe, and sustainable working environment for staff.
