Union Congregational Church is actively seeking an Executive Director to guide and oversee operations, administration, communications, community relations, and the church’s facilities as our church enters an exciting period of growth and change.

This is a full-time secular position working onsite Monday through Friday (when such conditions are safe to resume) and reporting to the Senior Minister with a competitive salary and full benefits, including health insurance and a pension plan. 

Responsibilities

Communications & Community Relations

·        Create warm, accessible, and welcoming spaces and points of engagement through which our congregation, our staff, and members of the wider community can experience and advance our values, ministries, and programs.

·        Oversee communications and technical staff and consultants, ensuring that all worship services and events are well captured and fully accessible.

·        Oversee the creation and delivery of congregational communications and publications, in collaboration with relevant ministers, staff, lay leaders, and consultants.

·        Ensure clear and consistent messaging across multiple media channels and platforms.

·        Coordinate, with the Digital Communications Task Force, a strategy to upgrade and optimize Union’s mechanisms for internal and external communication and engagement.

Administration & Operations

·        Collaborate with the Leadership Council, ministers, staff, and congregation to support the mission of the church through skillful site and program coordination.

·        Supervise the Office Administrator.

·        Oversee membership, fundraising, and financial software databases, including making related systems and processes more efficient and integrated.

·        Monitor budgets and review monthly financial reports to support the Treasurer and Finance Committee.

·        Oversee the administration of employee compensation and benefits, in consultation with the Personnel Committee.

·        Oversee IT consultants to keep our networks, hardware, software, documents, databases, telephone system, and online services secure, maintained, and backed up.

Facilities & Resources

·        Maintain a campus that is inviting, inclusive, and safe for everyone by ensuring full adherence to clearly communicated policies and procedures.

·        Supervise facilities staff.

·        Coordinate and oversee campus maintenance, in consultation with the Buildings & Grounds Team. 

·        Promote, schedule, and coordinate use of the campus, including by outside groups, to build community relationships and generate revenue to offset building use expenses.

Parameters

·        Full-time (35-hour) exempt, salaried, management position.

·        Office hours will primarily be on site (once it is safe to return to in-person conditions); attendance at occasional evening meetings and weekend events is expected.

·        Outstanding planning, communication, and organizational skills. 

·        Exceptional interpersonal skills, including a warm, friendly personality and the ability to recruit, train, and work with volunteers and external contacts with courtesy, sensitivity, discretion, and good will.

·        Flexible and confident initiator, comfortable with change, unknowns, and consensus-building.

·        Appreciation of church culture, mission-based objectives, values-driven leadership, and team development.

·        Able to manage many details at once without losing sight of the overall picture and our congregational Statement of Purpose.

Qualifications

·        7 – 10 years administrative and supervisory experience in a small business, non-profit, academic, or corporate setting.

·        Experience collaborating with volunteers and establishing relevant, efficient, forward-looking systems and processes.

·        Event coordination and facilities management experience.

·        Experience with website updates, internet communications platforms, and social media communication.

·        Proficient user of cloud-based office systems, databases, calendar tools, and broadcast messaging.

·        College degree preferred.
