The Community Advocate I, will report to the Volunteer/Community Outreach & Special Projects Supervisor, is responsible for providing the following services to victims of crime in the target victim population which includes people of color, immigrants, people with limited English proficiency (LEP) and homeless victims: engaging community and faith leaders to build trust and alliances, building working relationships with organizations that serve the target victim population, increasing the target victim populations' knowledge about the  impact of violence and services available, conduct county-wide outreach, present and facilitate public/ community  presentations discussion forums  focused on helping  the target victim population to  self-identify their victimization and access services. Utilize social media platforms like Facebook live, Twitter and Zoom to accomplish project goals, objectives and activities .

I.              SPECIFIC DUTIES

A.  Reach out to target victim population and engage the community, plan and organize meetings, discussion with community leaders, including faith leaders.

B.  Plan and organize meetings, discussion forums with target population.

C.  Attend target victim populations community events and activities, including at their places of worship, social service agencies and community centers.

D.    Contact organizations that serve the target population and establish Permission Slip Program (permission slip program allows the victim to authorize release of their contact information to VSC).

E.     Participate in events organized by the target population.


II.              DIRECT SERVICES

A.   Conduct public presentations designed to help victims' self-identify their victimization.

B.    Provide information about the impact of violence and VSC services.

C.    Provide information about the Criminal Justice Process.

D.    Provide Information about Victim Rights, how to obtain notifications, etc.

E.     Referral to other victim service programs as needed.

F.     Referral to other services, supports and resources (includes legal, medical, faith-based organizations, address confidentiality programs, etc.).

G.   Victim Advocacy/ Accompaniment to an emergency care facility in person or virtually 

H.    Victim Advocacy/ Accompaniment to medical forensic exam at a healthcare facility in person or virtually

I.  Law Enforcement Interview Advocacy/ Accompaniment-in person or virtually


IV.           CASE MANAGEMENT  AND PROJECT ACTIVITIES

A.    Maintain project records documenting activities, meetings, and outreach events.

B.    Maintain client records and enter data on ETO.

C.    Conduct evaluations of project activities as outlined in project proposal.

D.    Track and monitor project goals and objectives to ensure activities are on track and goals are being implemented.

E.     Provide information, project statistics and summary reports.

F.     General

1.    Attend other relevant community meetings.-in person or virtually via zoom

2.     Must attend agency meetings case consultations, staff meeting and supervision.

3.     Prepares reports on all activities as required.

4.      Special projects or other activities as required.

5.     Crisis services including crisis counseling, telephone contact, in-person information and referrals to connect victims to relevant services.

6.      Rotating responsibility for in-office crisis hotline shifts and weekly on-call rotation, including in-person hospital and police accompaniment for sexual assault victims.

7.      Provides accompaniment to court hearings including for Protection of Victims of Sexual Violence or Intimidation Act (PSVI) petitions as required.


V.          QUALIFICATION FOR POSITION

Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Criminal Justice or related field or Associate's with minimum of one year in related field.  Completion of the 40+ hour state mandated Sexual Assault Counselor (SAC) training and 25 hour Victim Advocate training (or equivalent) as a condition of hiring.  All employees are At-Will employees.  Criminal, Child Abuse History and FBI background checks required.  Vehicle, valid drivers' license and automobile insurance required.
