Position:  For thousands of families, the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank is the first place they visit when they need a little extra help. We not only provide our community with the most basic of needs; food, clothing, and financial assistance for eviction prevention, but we also provide heart, hope, and comfort. The essential role of the Development and Communications Assistant is to support the Development Director with marketing, event planning, grant writing, and other administrative tasks. This employee will be responsible for crafting tailored donor communications such as newsletters, social media posts, letters, and emails. They will also work closely with our staff and graphic designer to ensure a consistent voice to support our branding efforts. In addition to marketing tasks, the person in this position will be responsible for assisting with the planning and execution of major fundraising and stewardship events. They will also be tasked with administrative duties including but not limited to processing donations, thank you letters, and bulk mailings. Finally, the candidate will assist the grants team with grant writing duties including writing and proof-reading proposals as well as working with staff to obtain any data needed for grant applications and reports.

The ideal candidate for this position must be independent, self-motivated, organized, detail oriented, and skilled at interfacing with donors and with the public. This is a full-time position and standard hours are from 8:00am – 4:00pm Monday through Friday. Hours may vary occasionally for special programs. The pay rate is $18.50 hour and is benefits eligible.

LOCATION: Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank

REPORTS TO: Development Director


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Craft clear and concise donor-centric communications that represent how contributions are being utilized to serve our community members in need. Communications to include newsletters, gift receipt letters, e-mails, social media posts, and other forms as needed.

2. Work closely with Development Director to provide logistical, administrative, and leadership support for special events such as the Recipe for Hope Breakfast and Luncheon, Turkey Trot, Lake Sammamish Fireworks Show and the Partners Picnic. 

3. Participate as an active member of the grant-writing team.

4. Provide excellent customer service to constituents that visit or call the food bank.

5. Perform regular development administrative tasks and lead volunteers on projects as needed.

6. Provide administrative and program support to fellow department team members, as well as outside departments as needed.

7. Act as an ambassador for the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank to help educate the community and grow our support base.

8. Attend training as requested.

9. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Associate’s or bachelor’s degree and two years of program or customer service leadership experience preferred. Experience working in a food pantry or non-profit organization.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

A.                 Experience with donor focused communications and demonstrated use of marketing fundamentals.

B.                 Experience with planning and troubleshooting large and complex events.

C.                 Knowledge of grant-writing and fundraising fundamentals.

D.                Proficiency with social media platforms.

E.                 Experience with mail merges.

F.                  Competency with general office equipment and proficient computer knowledge.

G.                Competency with Microsoft Office, database systems, Publisher, Excel, and online reporting tools.

H.                Knowledge of customer service and how to lead a team in providing quality services.

I.                   Ability to prioritize tasks and duties and multitask in a busy environment.

J.                   Ability to organize, set priorities, and meet deadlines with a high attention to detail.

K.                 Ability to lead and motivate volunteers.

L.                  Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion; maintain confidentiality of clients, co-workers, and agency.

M.               Ability to relate well to individuals of all backgrounds and socio-economic levels.

N.                Ability to communicate effectively with clients, donors, volunteers, and coworkers verbally and in writing.

O.                Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.

P.                 Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including being able to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
