Many nonprofit organizations lack the resources necessary to fully achieve their missions. 501 Commons bridges that gap by offering a variety of consulting services in areas such as management, strategic planning, leadership development, financial management, human resources, technology, and fundraising.

501 Commons is looking to engage an independent consultant to provide technical assistance to nonprofits regarding their grant-writing needs. The Fundraising Assistance Consultant will strengthen the ability of organizations to successfully apply for funding opportunities by: 

  • Assessing their grant readiness
  • Researching and vetting relevant funding opportunities
  • Strategizing on how to best pursue pertinent leads
  • Developing grant calendars
  • Strengthening their case statement for support
  • Reviewing draft proposals, providing feedback, and editing final versions

The purpose of this position is to provide information, planning, coaching, and support to nonprofits to improve their fundraising capacity. At the end of the day, wouldn’t you like to know that you played a role in the success of nonprofits benefiting our community?

Essential Functions:

Fundraising Assistance

• Engage with clients to ensure that the services delivered meet their needs

• Deliver high-quality services that are timely, within budget, and consistent with best practices


Relationship management

  • Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships, demonstrated by follow-through on commitments and ensuring a high level of service quality
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) 


  • Entrepreneurial spirit; driven to ensuring that goals are met or exceeded
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in a fast-paced work environment and to meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills, with high attention to detail and follow-through


  • Capable of following general directives without requiring substantial supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels and with sensitivity for diverse cultural backgrounds

Problem Solving 

  • Accurate diagnostic ability, informed by sound judgment, that derives from assimilating pertinent aspects of a client’s situation, and the ability to deliver the most appropriate approach to resolve issues
  • Able to focus on multiple priorities and act in alignment with mission directives


  • Proven track record of writing successful grants over the course of at least five years on behalf of multiple clients
  • Broad understanding of RFP/A/Q general requirements, fundraising approaches and best practices
  • Adept Microsoft Office skills with willingness to master 501 Commons’ technology tools
  • License to do business as a contractor in Washington State
  • A match of at least one to one consulting engagements outside of 501 Commons
