Project HOME achieves its mission through a continuum of services comprised of street outreach, a range of supportive housing, and comprehensive services. We address the root causes of homelessness through neighborhood-based affordable housing, economic development, and environmental enhancement programs, as well as through providing access to employment opportunities; adult and youth education; and health care.  

 

Project HOME is committed to social and political advocacy. An integral part of our work is education about the realities of homelessness and poverty and vigorous advocacy on behalf of and with homeless and low-income persons for more just and humane public policies.

Job Summary The Media and External Communications Officer reports to the Vice President of Development and Communications and manages external communications and public relations for Project HOME.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Manages key external communications for Project HOME 
  • Coordinates all press requests 
  • Manages the creation of Development documents including: fundraising appeals to individuals, foundations and corporations; fundraising publications; communications materials, such as cultivation and acknowledgment letters 
  • Reviews and edits external communications materials including Project HOME newsletter, MPOWER partners, and high level presentations or events. 
  • Manages Communication firm on retainer  
  • Works with internal stakeholders to update communications pieces for external audiences 

 

*Evening/weekend hours may be occasionally required to attend and assist in the management of key events. 

 

Minimum Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years progressive communications experience.  
  • Great verbal and written communication skills  
  • Excellent project management skills and experience 
  • Familiarity and knowledge of social media  
  • Experience with marketing 
  • Experience communicating/working with donors and/or in customer service 
  • Excellent computer and technology skills (experience w/Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) 
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to details  
  • Ability to successfully manage several tasks simultaneously 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

•Experience in building and sustaining relationships with a variety of individuals 

•Experience in a human services non-profit 

•Experience working within a Development department 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
