    Description

    With its 56-year history, Legal Services of New Jersey is recognized by the National Legal Services community as a leader in advocacy and innovation. Legal Services of New Jersey spearheads the State’s six Legal Services programs and coordinates direct services to clients in all 21 counties.

    We seek an experienced Director of Development to design and execute a strategic development plan aimed at maximizing financial support from the public and private sectors for the mission and work of the New Jersey Legal Services system. The Director of Development will report directly to the President and work collaboratively with senior management and the advocacy team on strategic development plans, grant writing, donor cultivation and events. Additionally, the Director of Development will be involved in helping to supervise, train and hire an associate to assist with Development responsibilities.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Design and execute a strategic development plan in collaboration with the President
    • Identify, research, and pursue new grant opportunities from government and private sources
    • Oversee and collaborate on the preparation and dissemination of communications and solicitation materials for donors and prospective donors
    • Maintain accurate records of all fundraising activities
    • Identify and cultivate major donors, including law firms, corporate gifts and support from foundations
    • Organize and lead special projects and large annual fundraising events
    • Foster strong relationships with new, existing and prior donors

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree required (Advanced degree preferred)
    • Experience with non-profit fundraising (legal services or the judicial community a plus)
    • Experience with the use of social media to promote development initiatives
    • Knowledgeable of trends and technology for managing donor relations and fundraising
    • Track record in securing major gifts and grants
    • Familiarity with fundraising in New Jersey helpful
