The Workforce Development Education Instructor will develop and coordinate the delivery of work readiness, educational, career and life skills program services for Sunnyside Community Services Out of School Youth participants. Services will be directed toward the goal of empowering youths to acquire knowledge and skills to become gainfully employed and thereby enabling to maximize their potential and become self-sufficient. The Workforce Development Education Instructor works collaboratively with the OSY team (Case Managers, Career Development Specialist, Mental Health Counselor and Retention Specialist) to ensure the delivery of employment, educational and life skill services support the participant’s transition to work and education pathway.



Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:


  • Collaborate with OSY staff and administration to schedule classes, select curriculum and deliver and evaluate program.

  • Internet Job Searching and online Job Application

  • Employer Expectations
  • Problem Solving
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Communication
  • Relationship Building
  • Other workshops deemed essential to skills development
  • Prepare youths to participate in work experiences by teaching them both hard and soft skills needed to obtain and maintain employment.
  • Identify and select instructional resources and methods to meet participants varying needs, including use of instructional technology (i.e. internet and/or interactive technology) to support instruction in basic skills (reading and math).
  • Evaluate and report individual progress of participants in work readiness and basic skills.
  • Identifies job ready clients and refers them to the Career Development Specialist for Internship or placement.
  • Establish and maintain work readiness packets on participants that document the progression of work learned.
  • Maintain accurate case notes for each participant progress in work readiness sessions and enter notes in Capricorn.
  • Maintain positive communication with participants and demonstrate sensitivity towards students needs and circumstances.
  • Maintain confidentiality as it pertains to participants.
  • Maintain and report on attendance and participation of enrolled youths for each session.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and other relevant software programs.



  • BA/BS preferred with coursework in adult education, education or a social services field.  A combination of work experience and knowledge may be considered a substitute for educational preference.
  • Two years’ experience working with adult/youth workforce education programs or adult High School Equivalency (HSE) education/college preparation in public or private sectors.
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish preferred.
  • Relevant teaching experience.



  • Bending, sitting, stooping, standing and computer data entry.
