Riverdale Neighborhood House, Inc. (RNH) and its subsidiary Riverdale Community Center (RCC) are historic organizations serving the vibrant, diverse community of Riverdale. From our Early Childhood Center to our after-school programs offering college prep and employment for youth, to our Telephone Reassurance Program for seniors to our Community Pool, RNH/RCC offer programs and human services for families and individuals in the greater Bronx. RNH/RCC is looking for a dynamic individual for the position of Program Director for our center based SONYC program for middle school youth.  

General Job Description:

 The Program Director is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the program, funded by the Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the hiring, training, evaluation, supervision, and management of daily operations of a diverse staff ranging from seasoned activity specialists to high school interns. Additionally, the Program Director is responsible for program development, managing relations with schools and program partners, managing the program’s budget, and meeting all contractual DYCD obligations. The Program Director will also be tasked with collaborating and integrating with other RNH/RCC programs for high school youth. In addition, they will conduct outreach to communities, partners, and schools, representing the program at off-site meetings and conferences. The individual will participate in grant writing and fundraising efforts on behalf of the program, as needed.

 Major/Minor Duties and Responsibilities:

Ø Implement a program with a focus on social and emotional support activities and tied to project-based learning.

Ø Ensure DYCD online database is updated weekly including attendance, work scope, program schedule, and staffing.

Ø Ensure challenged based learning, clubs, and health and wellness workshops, which allow the students to learn in smaller groups.

Ø Create and maintain a welcoming, productive, and encouraging environment for participants, their families, and members of the community.

Ø Articulate the program’s vision, mission, and goals to students, families, and community leaders to generate support.

Ø Conduct supervisory meetings with staff to discuss performance, strengths, and challenges.

Ø Host monthly parent meetings to establish rapport and collaborate with families.

Ø Manage related programs funded by Discretionary allocations.

Ø Ensure program milestones are met.

Ø Produce program reports as needed.

Ø Attend committee meetings, programmatic meetings, departmental meetings, and agency-wide leadership staff meeting.

Ø Additional duties as assigned by the Deputy Director of Youth Services

Requirements/Qualifications:

Ø Bachelor’s Degree in Education/Social Work or related field.

Ø  At minimum, three years’ experience in youth development programs providing educational enrichment activities, with demonstrated success providing services to middle/high school-age youth in a direct service or supervisory role.

Ø Knowledge of performance-based contracts.

Ø Familiarity with the DYCD funded COMPASS programs preferred.

Ø  Demonstrated experience in practicing youth development principles and working with middle/high school urban youth. 

Ø Ability and commitment to create a positive environment built on supportive relationships among staff and students.

Ø Capacity to empower staff to serve as role models for students and create high expectations for student behavior, school and program attendance, work habits, and attitudes toward learning.

Ø Strong verbal and written skills.

Ø Strong, demonstrated computer skills.

Ø Demonstrated ability to perform multiple tasks effectively in a fast paced, challenging, and constantly changing environment.

Ø  Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Ø Successful Background check and State Central Registry clearances required (must be included).

Ø Able to perform physical activities including walking, bending, standing, and lifting 20-25lbs.
