The NY City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) has contracted with CHI to create the NY City Centering Program Manager (CPM) position to support the expansion and sustainability of Centering at healthcare practices within New York City. This project focuses on developing and supporting Centering practices within those zip codes reporting the highest incidence of poor birth and maternal health outcomes. The CPM provides direct technical assistance and training to current Centering practice sites and helps to identify and recruit new sites to start Centering. The position also requires engagement with DOHMH, community partners and payers. This position is employed by CHI.



Number of Positions Available

●       Relocation funds are not available for this position

Centering Technical Assistance / Implementation Support

●       Provide consultation and technical assistance to existing Centering practice sites to ensure ongoing quality and sustainability of practice; help problem-solve organizational challenges

●       Guide new Centering practice sites through the implementation process and systems change work required to launch Centering group care

●       Prepare practices for CHI’s accreditation process


Centering Facilitation Training

●       Conduct Centering basic facilitation training workshops for groups of up to 25 learners


Community Engagement

●       Organize and convene periodic Community of Practice meetings to bring Centering care teams from various practice sites together to share and problem-solve

●       Engage with payers and key community stakeholders to explore innovative payment models that support the expansion and sustainability of Centering


Administration & Professional Development      

●       Function as a key member of the project team with DOHMH and CHI

●       Provide timely, accurate, reliable communication including activity and expense reports

●       Attend regular staff meetings and professional development activities



Travel will be primarily within the New York City Metro area with occasional travel to CHI’s Boston headquarters, and other practice sites outside the region.



Experience Skills & Attributes

●       Minimum five to seven years health system experience or comparable

●       Centering group facilitation experience and completion of both basic and advanced facilitation Centering facilitation workshops strongly preferred

●       Strong understanding of and experience in change management within in a healthcare practice setting

●       Passionate about improving the U.S healthcare delivery system, in particular the patient experience of healthcare, health outcomes, and health equity

●       Familiarity with healthcare payment infrastructure and quality-based reimbursement a plus

●       Highly motivated self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit

●       Strong communicator skilled at presenting ideas and concepts

●       Comfortable engaging with clinic and community leaders, physicians, government agency heads

●       Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects at once, respond to tight timelines, pay attention to detail, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment

●       Ability to work with diverse groups of people

●       Access to transportation

●       Bachelor’s degree, postgraduate degree a plus but not required.

●       Bilingual/bicultural background highly desirable

●       Comfortable using and learning new technologies that support communication, data collection and reporting
