The Center for Court Innovation is a non-profit organization that works to create a more effective and humane justice system by performing original research and helping launch reforms around the world. The Center creates operating projects that have been documented to reduce the use of jail and prison, assist victims of crime, and strengthen communities. Nationally and internationally, the Center performs original research and provides consulting services to justice innovators.
Operating out of Bronx County Criminal Court, Bronx Community Solutions’ pretrial supervised release program provides regular monitoring and referral services to misdemeanor and non-violent felony defendants whose cases are pending Criminal Court. The Alternatives to Incarceration program responds to low level crimes by providing additional sentencing options for non-violent offenders. These programs reduce the reliance on pre-trial detention and short-term jail sentences and offers defendants the assistance they need to avoid further criminal conduct.
Bronx Community Solutions is seeking a Resource Coordinator. Reporting to both Associate Directors of Court Operations, this dual role will oversee the Supervised Release and the Alternatives to Incarceration court programs.
The Resource Coordinator serves as the primary liaison and representative between Bronx Community Solutions (BCS) and court room staff in arraignments. The Resource Coordinator must be intimately acquainted and well versed in all alternative sanction options and services offered by BCS as well as facilitate the program referral process for pretrial release, determine eligibility and advocate on the record for former/current & potential clients. The Resource Coordinator must be prepared to provide information on programs and services, respond to questions or concerns by courtroom staff, visitors or the public. In addition, the Resource Coordinator must establish close connections with other departments, criminal justice agencies & community organizations on behalf of BCS.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Conduct in-court eligibility screenings for both alternative to incarceration and pre-trial detention programs;
· Communicate with prosecutors, defense attorneys and, other court staff in identifying appropriate short or long-term alternative to incarceration sentencing options;
· Collaborate with defense attorney to identify participants who will likely have bail set at arraignments;
· Screen appropriate misdemeanor and non-violent felony defendants at arraignments to determine risk level and program eligibility
· Preform program outreach and/or refer for clinical assessments to determine appropriate sentencing options;
· Provide verbal case updates to the court and other court staff as needed including compliance reporting for both initiatives;
· Track cases; assist with data collection and management;
· Maintain good courtroom relations with all stakeholders;
· Update client information in electronic databases and hard files, including court screening/assessment outcome information;
· Participate in on-going court wide training for ATI and ATD programming.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year in a related area, preferably as a criminal justice practitioner. Excellent written skills are a must. Candidate must be skilled communicator able to work in multi-disciplinary setting and maintain strong relationships with multiple agencies and organizations both onsite and in the community.
Position Type: Full-time rotation of Nights (5:00 pm – 1:00 am shift), Weekends and Holidays.
