    Director of Organizing and Strategy

    Team: Advocacy

    Reports to: Senior Director of Advocacy

    Employment Status: Full Time/Exempt (40 hours/ week)

    Salary: $92,700/ year

    Location: Position is based in New York City and will require regular travel to Long Island, Mid-Hudson Valley, Albany, and occasional travel to other parts of New York State.

    Position Description

    The Director of Organizing and Strategy, will supervise and support immigration advocacy efforts with a focus in New York City, Hudson Valley on both Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The Director will liaise with members and allied groups to advance the rights of immigrants in affected communities and will serve as the NYIC representative.

    The Director will work closely with the NYIC organizing and strategy team that cover NYC, Long Island and the Hudson Valley to grow the NYIC’s presence in the regions, deepen the engagement of NYIC member organizations and partners in NYIC initiatives, expand the network of NYIC members and partners, and build the political power of immigrant communities, the organizations who serve them, and the NYIC. They will lead our efforts to mobilize member and partner organizations, lead NYIC advocacy efforts and serve as a link to key resources for member agencies.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Leads efforts to build and maintain a strong, multi-ethnic and geographically diverse group of member organizations and allies to do effective advocacy and organizing around campaigns
    • Executes strategies and best practices for state, local and federal campaigns and events
    • Identifies opportunities to bring new allies from diverse sectors into NYIC’s work and forms and manages strategic alliances. Strengthens participation from current groups
    • Coordinates and mobilize member agencies and coalition partners around local, state, and federal advocacy campaigns, as well as rapid response work as necessary
    • Serves as spokesperson for the NYIC in the regions, including in the media and through public speaking and regular meetings with community leaders, policy makers, and thought leaders
    • Coordinates federal advocacy work in partnership with policy and executive leadership
    • Represents the NYIC in lobby visits and meetings with elected officials and their designated staff
    • Forges relationships with policy makers in the regions, including elected officials and other key government staff, and serve as the NYIC expert in the regional landscape
    • Supervises a team of at least 3 staff and multiple fellows, interns, and volunteers.
    • Works closely with partners, allies, members and new organizations to build coalition and support collective action
    • Works in collaboration with the Managers of Organizing and Strategy to uplift the work of partner organizations
    • Occasionally carries and moves materials weighing 50 lbs or less.

    Qualifications:

    • At least 5-7 years of relevant professional experience, including managing a team and ability to successfully supervise team members to achieve key objectives
    • Detailed knowledge of immigration policy federal, state and local and issues facing diverse immigrant communities throughout New York State
    • Experience leading campaigns and building diverse coalitions.
    • 2-3 years of prior supervisory experience required
    • Fluency in one of the top 6 languages spoken in New York State strongly preferred.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, good judgment and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
    • Ability to multi-task and manage competing deadlines.
    • G-Suite/Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Salesforce
    • Must be legally authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.

    Salary: $92,700/year
