For the 2019-2020 School Year: Fall Semester begins Monday, September 9th (ends Friday, January 24th)

Wingspan Arts, a non-profit arts education organization, is seeking experienced and motivated Teaching Artists to teach in its multi-disciplinary arts enrichment afterschool programs for Pre-K through 5th grade students in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.

Commitment Expectations:

· Consistent and punctual attendance: weekly 90-minute sessions, 3:30-5pm, no more than 2 absences over the 5-month contract

· Course Outline and Lesson Plan Submission

· Preparation for and participation in community events that showcase student learning

· Weekly Classroom maintenance and restoration: student safety, class set-up and clean-up

· Clear and regular communication with the Wingspan Main Office and the Wingspan Staff at the school


More Project Details:

· Teaching Artists develop and implement their own curriculum for each Wingspan Arts class that meets the expectations described in Wingspan’s course descriptions. The curriculum must be provided to Wingspan Arts, but remains the intellectual property of the Teaching Artist.

· Teaching Artists are asked to provide a mid-semester Update for each class they teach to inform families or school partners on course achievements.

· Aside from set residency teaching hours, a teaching artist is not required to follow or establish a regular work schedule for lesson planning, preparation, or any other project related activity. 

· Teaching Artists are obligated to obtain their own substitutes on class days they cannot attend (no more than 2 per semester). Wingspan Arts will serve as a resource to assist in the process.

· Teaching Artists are given a materials budget for each class to be used at their discretion and are responsible for obtaining his or her own materials.

· Though not required, Wingspan Arts strongly recommends Teaching Artists attend scheduled orientations and briefing sessions, be familiar with school safety and policies, be aware of other policies contained in the “Wingspan Arts Teaching Arts Guide,” and be fingerprinted by the NYC Department of Education

How To Apply

Teaching Artists are Independent Contractors of Wingspan Arts, and are not considered employees. The Teaching Artist is paid on a 1099, and Teaching Artists are required to pay their own self-employment taxes, are ineligible for unemployment, heath, or transportation benefits through Wingspan Arts.
