Development Consultant for Creative Advocacy Org

C4AA seeks an experienced, detail-oriented, and results-driven development consultant to help support our long-term sustainability on a short-term basis. We are looking to diversify and grow our funding from foundations, major donors, individual contributions and government support. 

In the most immediate term, we are looking to diversify funding for the following programs:


  • protection of U.S. voting rights to ensure everyone who wants to vote can vote;
  • health equity: training and support to young people of color in being global health equity leaders;
  • climate change: help advocacy organizations do their best and most impactful work through creative activism.


The consultant will help us to create fundraising strategies and undertake research and information-gathering to grow the current grants pipeline and will also provide hands-on support in writing and submitting key funding applications and proposals. 


Primary Responsibilities


  • Conduct a review of C4AA’s current development practices, propose, and implement a revised process/system as necessary;
  • Research and evaluate new opportunities, identify new prospects, funding criteria and timelines.
  • Develop/maintain a database for all new funding opportunities identified. 
  • In coordination with Directors and based on the new funding opportunities identified, manage the grant application process including writing proposals, applications, and letters of intent to prospective foundations, government agencies, and other grant-makers. We expect these to vary in value and be for a range of project and core activity as directed.
  • Design and develop a communications strategy and engagement calendar to increase individual donor base; 
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned, required, or needed.


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5+ years of grant writing experience.
  • 5+ years of experience researching grants, foundations, and major gift prospects.
  • Proven proposal writing and strong proposal win rate required.
  • A specialist on advocacy and/or arts, health equity, democracy, and/or climate.
  • Proven ability to generate process and record keeping documentation that is clear and user-friendly is essential.

  • Practices with a concrete set of ethics and principles.


Terms and Compensation


The consultant will report to the Co-Director Rebecca Bray as well as other staff members as required. This role needs to be US based, preferably in New York State, and available to meet online weekly and as needed.


The length of the contract is from August 2021 through December 2021 with opportunities for future contracts. We anticipate the consultant to dedicate a minimum of 20 days over 1-2 months to research and development activities and a minimum of 40 days over 3-4 months in grant writing and implementation.


Total compensation up to $25,000, depending on experience.
