Mental Health Association of Nassau County (MHANC) is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to improving mental health in our community through advocacy, education, program development and the delivery of direct services. Our organization is looking for a motivated individual with a calling to help adults with mental illness by becoming a The Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance.

The Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance is dedicated to promoting the well-being of our consumers by:

  • Directing, managing and overseeing day to day functions of the quality assurance department.
  • Overseeing and acting as security manager for agency. Ensuring agency employees have access to Electronic Health Record Program (Foothold), NIMRS, CAIRS, and PSYCKES.
  • Developing, maintaining, and revising policies and procedures for the agency Compliance Program to ensure legal, ethical, proper conduct and activities agency wide.
  • Overseeing and facilitating the implementation and adherence to the agency Compliance Program, chairing the Corporate Compliance Committee and Incident Review Committee.
  • Instituting and maintaining an effective compliance communication program for the organization, including promoting (a) use of the Compliance Hotline; (b) heightened awareness of Code of Conduct, and (c) understanding of new and existing compliance issues and related policies and procedures.
  • Partnering with agency employees to ensure quality of care is provided to all agency members.
  • Responding to allegations of abuse/neglect in compliance with the NYS Justice Center, including but not limited to, investigations, determinations, and/or application of recommendations.
  • Partnering with the Human Resources Department to develop, revise and facilitate effective compliance trainings for employees, managers, officers and Board Members; including but not limited to, compliance, code of conduct, HIPPA, OMH safety training, Justice Center, SAFE ACT and Incident reporting requirements.
  • Responding and investigating allegations of violations of compliance program, regulations, and codes of conduct, medical billing, or justice center investigation ensuring proper resolution.
  • Consulting with the corporate attorney as needed to resolve difficult legal compliance issues.
  • Assisting departments in understanding and complying with regulatory requirements. This includes researching regulations, informing departments of regulations and assisting as needed in developing procedures to comply, as well as drafting responses to queries by regulatory agencies or employer groups.
  • Assessing and identifying potential areas of vulnerability and risk to provide proactive quality support regarding best practices, process development/improvement and risk management Reviewing program policies, procedures and practices to ensure compliance with HIPPA, OMH, DOH, ACESS-VR, OMIG, accreditation standards and oversight regulatory bodies.
  • Developing and implementing corrective action plans to minimize risk and vulnerable areas, ensuring program improvement including but not limited to: policy/procedure development and review, systems development and review, establishing benchmarks, etc.,
  • Tracking the implementation of corrective actions providing follow-up, as needed, with program staff.
  • Gathering data and generating periodic compliance reports for agency Compliance Committee of the Board and senior management.
  • Ensuring proper reporting of violations or potential violations to duly authorized enforcement agencies as appropriate and/or required.
  • Coordinating and/or overseeing regulatory submissions and reporting activities. 
  • Overseeing Case Record Review activities and preparing quarterly, semi-annually and annual Case Record Review reports, aggregating data, analyzing trends, and working collaboratively with program staff regarding follow-up activities and improvements, as required.
  • Developing and maintaining productive relationships with all levels of management as well as surveyors, legislators, regulators and other relevant external parties.
  • Monitoring state, federal and local regulatory agencies by staying abreast of laws and regulations that might affect the organization’s compliance policies and procedures. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Level of Language Proficiency

Ideal candidates are looking to make a difference and possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health administration or human services required.
  • Master’s degree in health care administration, human services, or public health preferred.
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of working within a quality assurance/quality improvement and/or compliance department in agency providing OMH services required.
  •  Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Able to travel within Nassau County, 25% of the time.
  • Self-starter with excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent communicator who is able to represent agency to state, federal, county entities (when deemed necessary).
  • Team player who is able to develop and maintain relationships within all levels of management.
  • Proven ability to make considered decisions and sensible conclusions while keeping a high level of confidentiality.
  • Detail oriented and pro-active problem solver.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite (excel, word, power point), Relias, Foothold, PSYCKES, NIMRS, CAIRS and Healthix.
