Under the direction of the Vice President of Finance/Controller, the Manager - Financial Applications is responsible for maintaining and ensuring the integrity of the accounting functions at Safe Horizon. This includes overseeing and monitoring the accounting application and the accounting data. The Manager should be able to propose improvements to the system as well as be a strategic business partner to the Information Systems & Technology (IS&T) department and Restitution department. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the direction of the Controller in the development and ongoing support for planning, accounting, and operational finance solutions. This includes requirements gathering, testing, maintenance, and user support.
  • Manages the month-end and year-end closing processes with key members of the Finance team.
  • Oversee the upload & download process to the general ledger.
  • Assist with the Agency’s annual audit by preparing schedule and making audit adjustment entries etc.
  • Assist the Controller in maintaining the integrity of the Finance department’s Accounting software.
  • Manages in operational support functions for planning and closing grants and cycles
  • Verify and reconcile data between Finance and Restitution database applications.
  • Review, reconcile, process and mail Restitution checks.
  • Investigate and resolve financial issues for the Restitution program.
  • Create and review “positive pay” files for upload to our banking institutions.
  • Create and maintain grant profiles and, “data items in the accounting system (Serenic Navigator).
  • Assist with finance process and system improvement solutions in partnership with IS&T teams.
  • Manages the month-end and year-end closing processes with key members of the Finance team.
  • Manages in operational support functions for planning and close cycles
  • Maintain the chart of accounts and grants list.
  • Provide technical assistance to Finance for the two budget processes throughout the fiscal year.
  • Support the Finance team in compiling financial statements, booking entries in the financial systems, monthly closings, and running reports.
  • Assist with new projects and undertake other related responsibilities and special projects as assigned.
  • Key player with system upgrades and conversions. 


Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting and MIS or equivalent relevant experience
  • Minimum of 4 years comparable work experience
  • Demonstrated strong computer proficiency with Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills
  • Accounting & Finance knowledge, including knowledge of GAAP and financial statement standards to ensure consistency in external reporting
  • Proven self-starter with ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment
  • Detail oriented and ability to multi task
  • Ability to manage time efficiently
  • Demonstrated strong teamwork skills
  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes and promote changes
  • Excellent communication, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Understands dependencies and interrelationships between accounting and other software applications.
