Mission:


As StartOut Community Manager, you will be responsible for supporting and collaborating with our chapters, which includes building relationships with local programming boards, sponsors, community partners, and to some degree with our local members. This is a position that requires a blend of positivity, professionalism, stellar communication, and amazing ability to manage details. 


As part of a small but highly effective team to advance the economic empowerment of the LGBTQ+ community, you will be in charge of working hand in hand with existing volunteers and partners to build local communities in our chapter cities. You will also be responsible for supporting our 80+ volunteers in organizing 80+ events per year in the following cities: Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington DC. 


In addition, you will be leading our expansion efforts, building new local chapters in 4 new cities: Detroit, Research Triangle, Oklahoma City, and Nashville.



A Day in the Life:


  • Working alongside chapter leaders to motivate and support volunteers in engaging with their local communities
  • Supporting volunteers as they design and organize monthly events in their local communities
  • Maintaining records of potential venues, food/drink sponsors, volunteers, and speakers to support chapter events
  • Supporting local chapters with marketing support (eventbrite creation, website updates, Facebook event creation, etc.)
  • Monitoring event registration, and working with the marketing manager and chapter volunteers to grow registration numbers
  • Engaging with corporate sponsors to ensure event commitments are upheld
  • Occasionally, working with the team to organize events not related to the chapters (national or fundraising events)
  • Informing and educating volunteers on StartOut programs, national updates, and policies as appropriate
  • Assembling and analyzing relevant data, and prepare and deliver weekly, monthly, and other reports as requested, detailing chapter activities
  • Planning and implementing chapter expansion strategies


About You:


  • You have 3+ years of experience managing volunteers – event management experience is a plus.
  • You are able to deliver results, facilitate and influence others and problem solve beyond temporary solutions
  • You are familiar with the startup/ entrepreneurship world. 
  • You have excellent professional communication skills.
  • You are able to establish and maintain working relationships with staff, volunteers, and stakeholders; exercise tact and diplomacy at all times; demonstrate sensitivity to cultural diversity needs
  • You are capable of juggling different kinds of work and shifting priorities, without much supervision. 
  • You live by deadlines and are a master communicator - you can keep yourself organized and deliver on time. When you sense a delay, you are quick to flag it and communicate roadblocks. Nothing falls through the cracks on your watch.
  • You’re tech savvy and enjoy learning new systems to improve efficiency.
  • Bonus Points: you have experience using Salesforce, Asana, and Eventbrite.
