The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is the not-for-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Yard on behalf of its owner, The City of New York (the “City”). BNYDC constantly strives to provide an environment in which businesses and careers can take root and grow.

BNYDC’s mission is to fuel New York City’s economic vitality by creating and preserving quality jobs, growing the City’s modern industrial sector and its businesses, and connecting the local community with the economic opportunity and resources of the Yard.

Areas of Responsibility

The Senior Vice President leads BNYDC’s Development department and is responsible for managing all of its staff, projects and internal corporate work streams. The Senior Vice President oversees all of the Yard’s development projects from project inception through construction completion, including projects structured as public-private partnerships and projects self-developed by the Yard. The Senior Vice President will also be responsible for new ground-up development associated with the Yard Master Plan.



  • Supervise and provide direction on all aspects of real estate project management and property transactions at the Yard
  • Lead new ground-up development projects
  • Source and close on various financing sources associated with real estate development
  • Lead negotiations of leases, development agreements, and other real estate transactions
  • Manage departmental goals, metrics, timelines and budget
  • Present projects to executive staff, boards and City officials in both oral and written form
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key tenant businesses, governmental and quasi-governmental agencies, consultants and contractors, financing entities, industry thought leaders and other partners
  • Lead and motivate interdisciplinary teams to implement Yard projects; hire and monitor consultants and contractors
  • Generate ideas for new development projects and internal processes and protocols that better enable the Yard to achieve its goals


Required Skills and Abilities


  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to and experience with managing direct reports
  • Ability to manage large teams across departments, including external contractors and consultants
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including public speaking
  • Proven ability to negotiate with counterparties to realize internal goals and priorities
  • Demonstrated strong professional judgment and ability to analyze, break down and solve problems creatively
  • Fluency with financial modeling and expertise in Excel
  • Familiarity with government programs and agencies related to real estate financing and development
  • Previous experience with tax credits (particularly historic and new market)
  • Ability to juggle multiple high-priority projects simultaneously; exceptional project management skills




  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year accredited institution
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in business, real estate, public policy, urban planning, law, or related field preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in relevant field(s), such as real estate, planning, development, urban policy/program development, and/or economic development
