Hope House is a 20-year-old organization whose mission is to help fathers in prison stay connected to their children. Our programs include a video-teleconference program that allows incarcerated dads and their kids to Skype on a regular basis; a family literacy program where dads in prison can record books for their children (we have recorded more than 23,000 books and sent them home to children); summer camps behind bars which takes children behind bars to spend five days with their dads participating in art and other activities together; a college assistance program which helps children of prisons navigate the college application process; and a program that helps dads mentor their own children from behind bars. We are currently seeking a Family Outreach Coordinator.
The role of the Family Outreach Coordinator for Hope House will include but not be restricted to the following:
Coordinate the Father to Child Video Teleconference Program. This task includes contacting parents or guardians of the children to set up a schedule, placing a reminder call the night before to the parent or guardian, provide transportation to the Hope House office for the children, provide a weekly schedule no later than the previous Thursday to the Executive Director and the prison, and whatever other relevant tasks may emerge.
Coordinate support groups for the Hope House Kids and Hope House Moms groups. In this capacity, the job of the Family Outreach Coordinator is to organize field trips, holiday parties, occasional focus groups, participation in the College Challenge, and whatever other special projects may arise.
Create and maintain a reference library of services that are available for Hope House DC families. When necessary work with the Hope House DC families to provide referrals or other social services.
Work with the Executive Director to organize the Father to Child Summer Camps including: contacting families, mailing information to participants, collecting required paperwork, developing schedule and other materials for camp, renting vans, and other tasks that need to be completed.
Work with the Executive Director to coordinate the Father to Child Reading Program which will include recording books in prisons, organizing books for the prisons, work with other staff members to coordinate book mailings.
The Family Outreach Coordinator must be able to drive, preferably a 15 passenger van.
We are a very small organization. Sometimes that requires all of us to pitch in to do a variety of jobs.
