Job Summary

The Marketing Specialist (“the specialist”) will assist the Executive Director (ED) in managing the marketing and social media strategies of Roots ConnectED. The specialist will play a key role in coordinating and managing Roots ConnectED marketing strategies and social media content including design, content development, networking and market research. As such, the specialist is responsible for ensuring an increase of and continued engagement with a wide audience of existing, new and potential clients, supporters, and aligned organizations for Roots ConnectED through marketing and social media campaigns and research. The specialist is also responsible for ensuring that our strategy and content adapt and expand as the organization evolves and matures. Working closely with the ED, the specialist will contribute to the brand recognition and marketing strategy of the organization with the ultimate goal of increasing Roots ConnectED participants and clients. 


The Marketing Specialist will be responsible for supporting Roots ConnectED leadership in the following areas: Marketing Development

  • Ensure and prepare a cohesive brand across all platforms including social media, website, presentations, workshop materials, webinars, and all other outward facing activities
  • Assist in outbound or inbound marketing by executing on content development, advertising creative, email, and other written and visual content
  • Plan and execute initiatives to reach the target audience through appropriate channels (social media, e- mail, paid advertising, etc) that align with internal goals and KPIs 
  • Collect and assist in analyzing marketing data (campaign results, conversion rates, traffic, competitor insights, trends etc.) to help shape future marketing strategies
  • Research and support in the establishment of beneficial program pricing strategies
  • Coordinate public relations and outreach initiatives, including press release distribution, awards,
  • company announcements, and speaker proposals
  • Organize and participate in events to build community and boost brand awareness 
  • Social Media Development and Upkeep
  • Maintain company social media pages and profiles
  • Identify key content for social channels by looking at participant feedback, reviewing listserv letters, reviewing workshop content, and identifying key comments from thought leaders
  • Interact with thought leaders and community through social media
  • Design and oversee ad layouts and create a content plan based on RC branding and direction
  • Website and Blog Development and Upkeep
  • Create and support the development of engaging content and resources for website and blog pieces (which can be used widely across all social media outlets)
  • Upkeep and relevancy of website content and development
  • Identify content creation opportunities and execute on various alternate platforms, such as podcasts and YouTube

Candidates should demonstrate a passion for brand building, content curation, analytics and design as well as have a deep interest in the work of Roots ConnectED.

Qualifications include:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters discreetly
  • Attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, and establishing priorities and meeting deadlines with grace
  • Strong work ethic, high energy and the ability to manage multiple projects and interruptions with ease and good humor
  • Ability to be proactive and drive the work creatively and independently
  • Ability to manage multiple, detailed tasks and drive toward deadlines
  • High level of interpersonal maturity, poise, and professionalism
  • Deep level of understanding of anti-bias / anti-racist work
  • Reflect Roots ConnectED core values and its mission
  • Solid computer skills, including MS Office, marketing software (Adobe Creative Suite & CRM) and applications (Web analytics, Google Adwords etc.)
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS and web development tools desired
  • Experience in website design and content development
  • Thorough understanding of marketing elements (including traditional and digital marketing such as SEO/Social media etc.) and market research methods
  • Demonstrable experience in marketing data analytics and tools
  • Proficient in Google Analytics and market testing 
  • Experience with Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube is essential, as well as business application of said media outlets 
  • Knowledge of Hootsuite or similar programs to manage online postings on different platforms.
  • Knowledge of project management and web design best practices
  • Experience with content development and website design
  • Strong attention to deadlines and budgetary guidelines
  • Knowledge of relevant markets and trends

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience
