ABOUT RECOVERY CAFÉ AND RECOVERY CAFÉ NETWORK  

Our MissionWe are a community of individuals who have been traumatized by homelessness, addiction  and other mental health challenges coming to know we are loved and that we have gifts to share. Recovery Café was founded on the truth that every human being is precious and beloved regardless of past trauma, mental and emotional anguish, addictive behaviors or mistakes made. We provide a beautiful, safe, warm, drug and alcohol free space and loving community to anchor Members (those we support most closely) in the sustained recovery needed to gain and maintain access to housing,  social and health services, healthy relationships, education, and employment. Our program is designed to help people maintain recovery, reduce relapse and fulfill their potential. 

The Recovery Café Network (RCN) is committed to nurturing groups seeking to start recovery communities based on the Recovery Café model. Through a cohort learning model, groups and organizations are provided mentorship, materials, expertise, and facilitated learning experiences to  create a recovery community in their area. The Network is committed to helping those who join the Network be successful in starting their program, building recovery capital in their communities, and  offering effective long-term recovery support for years to come.  Currently this is a national movement with RCN Members across the United States and our desire is to bring this healing response to every community that needs one.

POSITION DESCRIPTION 

Reporting to the Recovery Café Network Director, the Communications and Outreach Manager (C&O) will work with the RCN team to develop and guide the strategy for all RCN communications, website, and public relations messages and collateral to consistently articulate RCN’s mission. The C&O Manager will ensure that RCN is viewed as the primary source, disseminator, and conduit of information about the Recovery Café model and the Recovery Café Network. The C&O Manager will work closely with the other RCN team members and partner with Recovery Café Seattle on a variety of communication and/or outreach initiatives.  They will also collaborate with outside partners and the full RCN team in improving and representing RCN through graphic design, brand awareness, social media presence, and so forth.

COMMUNICATIONS RESPONSIBILITIES  

●      Develop, implement, and evaluate the annual communications plan across the RCN’s audience segments in collaboration with the RCN team and other Recovery Cafés part of RCN

●      Lead the generation of online content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action. Decide who, where, and when to disseminate 

●      Build upon and put communications vehicles in place to create momentum and awareness as well as test the effectiveness of communications activities

●      Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, eNewsletters, press releases, social media, podcasts, brochures, and RCN’s website 

●      Work with vendors, including website developers, graphic designers and print companies 

●      Edit communication materials developed by RCN staff and ensure all communications follow RCN guidelines  

●      Ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) are posted regularly on the website and social media 

●      Track and measure the level of engagement within RCN audiences over time

●       Assist RCN team members in event communication including developing content, event promotions, logistics and taking photographs  

●      Other duties as assigned

  

OUTREACH RESPONSIBILITIES

●      Follow up and answer questions around the Recovery Cafe Model as well as how to become an implementer of the Model

●      Conduct prospect research, perform cold calls, field front line inquiries, assess and qualify inquiries, schedule follow-up calls and visits

●      Ensure accurate and timely responses to Network inquiries via email and phone, and arrange meetings and present information at those meetings with potential implementers

●      Coordinate media contacts alongside the RCN Director, Founding Director, and RC Seattle Executive Director  

●      Gather and record information from site visits to be used in outreach and social media

●      Solicit and record feedback from Cafes.  Use information to support robust online/social media presence and help provide support to Cafes with their efforts.

●      Continue to hone message of Recovery Cafe Network  

●      Arrange and host tours of the Recovery Cafe Seattle locations as requested 

●      Update and expand contacts, monitor engagement, and generate reports in Salesforce database

●      Represent RCN at conferences as exhibitor, presenter, and/or attendee to build awareness of the Recovery Café model and RCN 

●      Maintain current industry events calendar, support the generation of proposals for Network speaking opportunities, anticipate and meet associated deadlines

●      Provide facilitation support and delivery for local and virtual engagements, up to and including co-facilitation

●      Facilitate engagements, set up and monitor systems that require technical experience such as webinars, video conference calls, meetings, and presentations

●      Support recruitment efforts through the above responsibilities and in specific recruitment activities as needed

DESIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Qualified candidates must have at least 5-10 years of work experience in a communications and/or community outreach background. Experience in a social services or addiction recovery non-profit is preferred.  This position requires an understanding of social media and an openness to learning new skills. Understanding of basic marketing and outreach practices and metrics a plus.  In addition, candidates must have the ability and willingness to travel to represent RCN and visit Cafes part of the Network across North America (estimated travel 5%).

This candidate will be expected to work on site at RCN’s world headquarters located at Recovery Café’s SODO site, 4202 6th Ave S., when it is safe to do so due to COVID.  This is not a job that can be done remotely on an ongoing basis.

●      Strong communication skills and ability to connect with people of various levels in an organization 

●      Experience creating and executing communication plans utilizing multi-platforms and approaches

●      Ability to work independently and with others  

●      Comfortable using email, phone, video conferencing, and other such methods to collaborate with others across geographies and time zones 

●      Excellent team player 

●      Willingness and ability to accommodate a flexible schedule 

●      Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite 

●      Experience with database systems ex. Salesforce

●      Strong interest in working with diverse populations 

●      Experience in a social service agency a plus 

●      Bi-lingual in Spanish and English a plus 

●      Experience personally or with individuals in recovery from addiction and other mental health challenges a plus 

●      Passion for the recovery journey personally and professionally preferred 

●      Willingness to build skill in graphic design

●      Motivated by collaborating to create new structures, initiatives and responses to accommodate an organization that is growing and evolving
