Friends of Materials for the Arts is seeking a Development Manager. Materials for the Arts is the City’s premier creative reuse facility supporting nonprofits with arts programming and the City’s public schools. Friends of Materials for the Arts is the organization’s non-profit partner and all fundraising is directed to programs underwritten by the Friends group.

The Development Manager will work directly with the Executive Director, senior staff and board members to plan and execute all fundraising initiatives and fundraising events for the program. The Manager oversees an active foundation, corporate, and government grants program, individual giving, a successful annual fundraising event held at the Materials for the Arts warehouse in LIC and smaller events throughout the year.

The Manager works closely with the Communications Coordinator to promote and market the organization’s work to both fundraise and friend-raise. The Manager will work with the Friends board, helping to create an annual budget, sit in on board meetings, and create an annual fundraising plan and research opportunities for earned income as well as standard corporate and private grant opportunities. Additional responsibilities will include financial tracking and budget oversite.


Qualifications

•Excellent public speaking and professional writing

•Knowledge of effective fundraising strategies

•Strong collaboration skills to direct and lead team efforts for fundraising

•Ability to ensure that existing donors experience a meaningful interaction to foster their long-term engagement

•Experience in identifying, soliciting and cultivating new individual and corporate donors through innovative outreach

•Knowledge of non-profit budget creation

•Experience in researching and writing grant proposals including follow up reporting

•Ability to plan and organize a large annual fundraising event, as well as smaller events throughout the year.


Preferred skills

•A passion for our mission of Creative Reuse, Arts and Culture, Social Justice and Sustainability

•An eagerness to be an active and articulate spokesperson for our organization

•A familiarity and interest in arts and environmental nonprofits, NYC government including public and Charter School communities, local businesses and funder communities.

•Demonstrated track record of development/outreach success as part of a team

•An outgoing personality

•Ability to organize and manage multiple projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines

•Flexibility to work evenings or weekends whenever needed

•Comfort with being part of a team and take direction as well as ability to work independently

•Familiarity with QuickBooks

•Salary commensurate with experience
