Role and Responsibilities

ideas42 is looking for a seasoned professional to join its senior team to lead its operations function. This position will be responsible for ensuring ideas42 has effective, efficient and ever improving operations. The position will report directly to the Executive Director, and be integral to helping manage the organization. They will work closely with other members of the senior team including the Chief Innovation Officer, Director of Finance, Director of Communications, Director of People Operations, and the Managing Directors, who oversee the content focus areas (e.g. safety and justice, education, economic justice, etc.). The position will supervise the Director of Finance, Manager of Compliance and administrative staff. The Executive Director will lean on you to help identify and prioritize operational improvements for the organization and then drive these priorities forward. This role will involve overseeing and monitoring the work of other teams as well as leading and doing projects yourself. The Director of Operations will be responsible for working with the Executive Director to set the agenda and decision-making process for leadership and senior team meetings. You must be a people-oriented person, strong collaborator, logical thinker, and have a low-ego get the job done mentality. The ideal candidate has years of relevant operational experience, is an extremely organized tasks master, and is interested in taking on an operational role, using their strong financial acumen, strategic planning and change management experience.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working with the Executive Director and Chief Innovation Officer to identify operational improvement opportunities and new strategic initiatives. This will require becoming deeply familiar with ideas42 business model, KPIs and processes.
  • Managing ongoing organizational operations and internal systems, ensuring ongoing improvement in processes across the Finance, Operations, and Legal, functions.
  • Executing your own set of high-priority improvement projects that have been identified with the Executive Director.
  • Strategically planning agendas, creating deliverables, and ensuring follow-up occurs as needed for semi-annual Board meetings.
  • Overseeing ideas42 information technology needs. This includes ensuring that team members have the tools they need to succeed on a day-to-day basis, as well as working with the Managing Directors to ensure that ideas42 has the technology and data security resources to execute key projects and fulfill contractual or legal obligations.      
  • Direct supervision and management of the Finance and Administration team, a Compliance Manager, the Administrative and Office Management team members, chipping in on office management when needed.
  • Overseeing ideas42 legal function and needs. This includes:
  • Advising the Executive Director and other Senior team on legal matters
  • Deciding when and how to engage outside counsel
  • Managing the Compliance Manager in review of contracts and legal matters, and addressing escalated legal issues from the Compliance Manager
  • Own risk management; work with the Compliance Manager to ensure that our business registrations are current, and our insurance coverage appropriately transfers risk in line with business needs.
  • Being primary lead for planning and facilitating the organization’s meetings for strategy, tactical decision making, and internal communications. These include Managing Director meetings, Senior Team meetings, all-team town halls and retreats, and other meetings as needed.
  • Occasionally conducting research and compiling advanced briefing materials to support the Executive Director in important meetings and appointments.
  • Helping the Executive Director and Director of Finance prepare materials for bi-annual board meetings

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 8 years of full-time relevant work experience
  • Substantial experience leading complex projects with multiple work streams
  • Strong working knowledge of Google Suite, cloud storage, and Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with a commitment to high-quality output
  • Highly organized, with the ability to work efficiently and effectively
  • Low-ego with the willingness to lead from behind and approaching work with a growth mindset
  • Mission-aligned, self-starter, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree or Juris Doctor (JD) Degree
  • 10+ years of relevant full-time work experience
  • Experience as an Operations Manager or related role where you were responsible for leading different types of decision-making processes.
  • Strong knowledge of commonly used software platforms like Salesforce, Okta, Microsoft Azure Active Directory, etc.    
  • Experience working on strategic planning or serving as a strategy consultant
  • Passion for understanding human behavior and pursuing innovation
