CommonLit is a nonprofit edtech startup organization dedicated to improving literacy. We develop open educational resources, digital curriculum materials, and integrated technology tools that we make freely available to all teachers and students at to promote high-quality reading and writing instruction.

We are looking for a bilingual curriculum writer (English/Spanish fluent) who has a love for literature and who is invested in improving outcomes for students. The person in this role would be charged with leading CommonLit’s expansion to Texas and would be instrumental in building a team that would design instructional tools for English Language Learners. The ideal candidate would be excited about working for a fast-paced start-up and willing to take on multiple roles.


  • Manage the opening and operations of a new CommonLit office
  • Lead a growing team of Spanish and English-language curriculum writers
  • Advise the organization on instructional best practices for English Language Learners
  • Train and coach teachers
  • Design and lead professional development
  • Manage multiple curriculum projects
  • Collaborate with international stakeholders to ensure project goals are met
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the curriculum team to meet organizational milestones
  • Analyze both Spanish and English-language literature to develop instructional materials
  • Assist the curriculum team’s acquisition and publication of new Spanish and English-language texts to the website


  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree required
  • Fluency in Spanish (native speaker preferred)
  • Teaching experience - 5 or more years as an ELL or Spanish teacher required
  • Significant instructional leadership, teacher coaching experience, and curriculum design experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of the WIDA and other standards used to design curriculum for students who are ELLs
  • Comprehensive understanding of best practices for supporting students who are ELLs with technology tools
  • A background in English literature or Spanish-language literature, history, education, or other humanities field is preferred
  • Experience managing a team and providing feedback to others
  • Strong writing, editing, and analytical skills required
  • Strong attention to detail required
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn

Location: Flexible; San Antonio, TX or Washington, DC preferred
