BYP100 is seeking an experienced organizer with 3-5 years of supervisory experience to on board into this newly created position as Director of Strategy & Programs. They will be responsible for setting the vision for our Organizing, Membership, Policy and Advocacy work and leading their team in creating and implementing strategies and tactics that help us win. 


The Director of Strategy & Programs will be an organizational decision maker and member of the senior staff team, reporting to the National Director. They will manage a team of 3-5, with on-going opportunity to grow their team as the work and finances dictate. 


This individual must be clear on what what it means to be an abolitionist freedom fighter in this time, and in all things care for and center the lives of Black women, girls (cis & trans) and gender non conforming people. They must be comfortable speaking on issues of gender justice, Black liberation, policing and incarceration. They should have an understanding of and some practice in healing, transformative, and restorative justices. 


Director of Strategy & Programs must be located or be willing to relocate to one of the following locations following their 90 days introductory period: Atlanta, Chicago, DC, Detroit, Durham, Jackson, Milwaukee, New Orleans, New York.


Key Responsibilities


  • Lead the Organizing, Membership, & Policy Teams, including supervision through individual and group meetings, regular communication, shadowing, coaching and intentional training, as well as building the capacity and vision for field organizing, national campaign, digital mobilization, issue advocacy, electoral work and strategy, and base-building
  • Collaborate with Communications team in designing and managing digital campaigns and increasing the engagement in online activism and where possible move engaged parties to offline activism.
  • Collaborate with the National Director to develop a training curriculum to build members expertise and capacity for their on-the-ground work.
  • Build and maintain relationships with leaders of partner or potential partner organizations including labor unions, policy groups, advocacy organizations, policy experts, government staffers that deepen BYP100’s relationship with them and their understanding of the work. 
  • Represent BYP100 at coalition tables at the direction of the National Director.
  • Oversees the development, tracking, and reporting teams’ goals, outcomes, and performance metrics.
  • Meet regularly with National Director, and other staff to assess ongoing progress of the teams and their particular areas of focus to ensure that goals are met, but are that the work, communications and funding are all in alignment.
  • Ability to travel as necessary - it is anticipated that this position may require travel 1-2 times month.
  • Flexible schedule with evening and some weekend availability

 

Candidate requirements: 


  • 3-5 years experience in organizational leadership and co-supervision or staff support
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, coordinating, and carrying out successful campaigns and base building efforts —preferably in member- or volunteer-led organization and/or an organization with strong commitments to volunteer leadership development and coalitional organizing
  • Experience in training and group facilitation
  • Willingness and ability to seek out relevant work and allies for building partnerships and coalitions
  • Ability to balance multiple responsibilities well, set priorities, and follow work plans
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Accountable and responsive
