Description

New Yorkers for Parks (NY4P) is the independent citywide research and advocacy organization championing quality parks and open spaces for all New Yorkers in all neighborhoods. For over 100 years, NY4P has advocated for the city's parks, beaches, and playgrounds.

The Fellow for Great Parks

NY4P launches its Fellows for Great Parks program with an intensive 9-month fellowship for a recent college graduate in the Research & Policy department. As a fellow, you will experience deep immersion in an organization working towards park equity: the idea that parks and open spaces are fundamental elements of New York City’s infrastructure for a more equitable city. You will create published research tools to help local park advocates. You will explore working with nonprofits, elected officials and their staffs, community organizations, neighborhood stakeholders and more to drive your research and help you make a difference for New Yorkers. You will pursue supported independent research, developing talents and skills in a real-world setting.

Roles & Responsibilities of the Fellow

  • Conduct demographic, historical, and field research to support the work of NY4P staff in serving communities where open space is at risk
  • Develop public-facing tools and materials to share NY4P research with communities to inform their local advocacy for their parks and open spaces
  • Engage directly with local community advocates at regular meetings to participate in and support local advocacy efforts with informed, timely research & data

Mentoring & Career-Building Support

  • Gain skills through hands-on experience to launch your career
  • Collaborate with staff and park and open space advocates
  • Explore and develop a personal project in a specific rezoning research area with NY4P staff support
  • Connect with NY4P’s robust professional alumni network through work assignments, and NY4P alumni mentoring
