World Conference of Religions for Peace (Religions for Peace) is the world’s largest international multi-religious organization with over 92 national chapters and affiliates (Inter-Religious Councils/IRCs) in over 100 countries. Founded in 1970, it is dedicated to multi-religious advocacy and practical actions around peace and security, development and human rights. The annual budget is approximately $3 million dollars, with aspirations to grow the organization to have an annual budget of $25 million within 5 years.
The Director of Finance and Human Resources plans, organizes, and directs the overall financial and administrative activities of Religions for Peace. The Director reports to the Secretary General (SG), and serves on the Senior Management Team, which reviews and formulates policy and institutes strategic plans with the guidance of the Governing Board. The Director is responsible for reports to the Treasurer and supports the SG presentations to the Governing Board.
5-10 years progressively responsible experience managing the overall fiscal systems of diversely funded organizations; demonstrated leadership in institutional management and competence in computerized accounting systems. BA and CPA required. MBA or MPA preferable.
1. ACCOUNTING AND AUDIT:
Develops, implements and maintains computer-based accounting system for headquarters and field office operations that accurately reflects Religions for Peace’s financial activities. The records will be organized in accordance with generally accepted accounting principals in a timely manner for the senior management team, program directors, donors, and the Governing Board. Maintains responsibility for an annual audit by Religions for Peace’s independent public accountants.
2. BUDGET DEVELOPMENT:
Responsible for the preparation of the annual budget and all grant budgets to ensure compliance with the goals and fiscal constraints as defined by the organization. Monitors compliance regularly.
3. FINANCIAL PLANNING:
Develops fiscal policies to ensure the immediate and long term financial viability of the organization. This includes assessing cash needs, managing cash flow, and maximizing the appropriate use of funds. Works with outside investment professionals to invest funds to further the long term needs of the organization. Establishes and maintains relationships with banks, auditors and other constituents.
4. GRANT/CONTRACT MANAGEMENT:
Negotiates contract terms to ensure they meet the organization’s requirements and monitors grants to ensure that they conform to the defined budget parameters and terms of the contracts with donors.
Develops and prepares operational and statistical reports for management, program directors, donors and regulatory agencies. Collects, organizes and analyzes the data to assist in making fact-based decisions and to comply with regulations.
6. SPECIFIC NON-PROFIT RELATED DUTIES:
Responsible for all regulations and completion of requirements associated with the organization’s non-profit status. Manages all Religions for Peace record-keeping and reporting in order that this status is not jeopardized. This includes working with the independent public accountants to prepare and finalize the annual 990 tax return.
7. HUMAN RESOURCES (HR):
Manages payroll, benefits, taxes, and insurance for all staff.
Supervises assigned staff by training, providing performance direction, and completing performance evaluations on a regular basis to ensure an effective and productive work environment.
Oversees overall staff welfare and development, interpersonal relations, dispute resolutions, etc., and ensures all staff and IRC adherence to the Religions for Peace Code of Conduct
Supervises and trains project staff who are assigned the responsibilities for financial and/or HR matters in/with the IRCs.
8. OFFICE ADMINISTRATION:
Oversees day-to-day administration and operations of headquarter office including computer systems, equipment purchasing and maintenance, space usage, and landlord relations among others.
Performs related responsibilities as required. Provides assistance as requested by the Secretary General, in all relevant areas regarding the financial activities of Religions for Peace.
The incumbent will demonstrate the ability to work effectively in an organization that places a high value on intercultural and international relationships, and works in a highly collaborative manner often also under pressure of time and resources.
