Question 1:

The field placement assistant requires strong customer service and problem-solving skills that often need to be communicated through email. Please review the following sample message and draft a response to address the situation. Two things to note: although the mentor teacher mentions leaving a voicemail, you have not received one. Also, this is the first complaint you have received about the link, which you also emailed to 100+ other mentors.

Dear placement team,

I am Beth Jones's mentor teacher at John Hay Elementary School, and I am trying to use the link you sent me to register for the professional development credits I earn for working with Beth during her student teaching internship. The link you sent isn't working for me and the registration deadline is coming up soon. I need these credits because my teaching certification is up for renewal this year.

I have called your office several times and it always went to voicemail. Last week I left a message but have not received a phone call, so I would like to make an appointment to speak with someone by phone. I take lunch between noon and 12:45, or can talk after school ends at 2:30 p.m.

This is my first time working with an SPU student. Beth will make a good teacher but I am concerned about the lack of communication from SPU. Please let me know a time when I can call you next week.

3rd grade teacher, John Hay Elementary

Question 2:

Describe any experiences you have had in developing cultural competence. (This could be lived experience, coursework, service work, or however you would like to define your skills and knowledge in this area.)
