Associate Manager, Leadership Development

The Partnership is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and motivated project manager to join our Leadership Development team. The Associate Manager will play a critical role in the Partnership’s work developing strong government leaders who can address our country’s biggest challenges more effectively. This role will support the Partnership’s agency-specific leadership development programming.   

Our agency-specific leadership programs range from webinar series and one-day seminars to multi-year programming focused on complex challenges facing federal agencies. One of our largest initiatives to date has been with the Department of Labor, where we worked with thousands of leaders across the country. Through this work we developed federal executives through our Executive Onboarding Program, trained all supervisors on key leadership competencies through our one- and four-day sessions, developed and implemented programming for aspiring leaders, and created customized interventions to address sub-component-specific challenges. Typical programming at the sub-component level have included team retreats focused on vision-setting, customer service and team norms; diversity, equity, and inclusion training for all employees across the country; team and individual coaching for the executive and leadership team. 

This person will work closely with the senior manager on our agency programming to manage individual custom engagements. This will include leading out on program operations, delivery, communications and team coordination. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player able to organize multiple assignments, take ownership, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and bring an innovative mindset to solving problems. They will have the ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with internal teams, external stakeholders, customers and our partners. They will demonstrate a commitment to public service and have an interest in taking on increasing responsibility for program management and supervision.  


  • With senior-level oversight, manage small-to-medium sized leadership programs at federal agencies. 
  • Manage day-to-day operation and logistics, including session agendas, materials, event planning, expenses, staffing, platforms and more for both in-person and virtual programming. 
  • Manage relationships with senior officials and training coordinators in the federal government. 
  • Work closely with and support senior manager on strategy, planning and design. 
  • Create and disseminate internal and external program communications. 
  • Coordinate peers, associates, interns, and facilitators to deliver programs, including tracking tasks, reviewing deliverables and supporting team members to problem-solve and deliver excellent customer service. 
  • Identify and implement process improvements and potential automations to improve team efficiency and better deliver on in-person and virtual programming. 
  • Support program production and delivery for program components as needed. 
  • Ensure team is meeting its inclusivity and equity commitments including supporting participants and team members with accessibility needs.

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent professional work or military experience required.  
  • Minimum of two to four years of experience that includes project management and work with multiple stakeholders.  
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite of software, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams, required. 


This position will report to a senior manager on the Leadership Development team. The position does not have formal supervisory responsibilities but may supervise interns. 


This job operates in a professional office environment in Washington, DC. This position requires consistent use of office equipment such as computer, telephone, printer, and scanner. Please note that because of COVID-19, Partnership staff are currently working remotely.  


This is a full-time position with regular work hours Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Occasional evening or weekend activities may be required. Please note that because of COVID-19, the Partnership is currently allowing maximum flexibility in work schedules.   


Local travel to various federal agencies and other sites will be required. Some out-of-state and/or overnight travel may be required.
