REST Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY

Real Escape from the Sex Trade (REST) exists to provide pathways to freedom, safety, and hope for sexually exploited individuals. The REST Community Advocate is responsible for building trusting relationships with individuals who have been trafficked for commercial sex and assisting them in achieving safety, prioritizing self-identified goals, developing a plan to reach those goals, and making referrals for services to accommodate their goal plan. REST seeks to provide client- centered, trauma-informed, and strengths-based services that empower individuals to take the steps they want toward self-sufficiency. This particular position is grant-funded and serves as part of the Washington Anti-Trafficking Response Network (WARN). The position reports to two supervisors, at REST and WARN, and works closely with both organizations. REST is a Christian organization, dedicated to serving people of all faiths and backgrounds.

ROLES

  • Become an expert on resources and community services that meet the needs of survivors of sex trafficking
  • Cooperate with other agencies in the social service system to provide good networking of client services
  • RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Implement trauma-informed, strengths-based, and person-centered case management for survivors of sex trafficking
  • Manage an active case load of 15-25 individuals, monitored and determined based on level of need
  • Manage intake, create individualized goal plans, and maintain progress notes for each client
  • Explore each clients strengths, needs, and culture across life domains to build an informed and integrated goal plan
  • Use a holistic approach to care, providing opportunities for clients to explore emotional,
  • physical, and spiritual needs
  • Assist clients in accessing resources to help meet their individualized goals
  • Advocate on behalf of clients within government organizations, community services, and
  • immigration law to increase opportunity for success
  • Coordinate with on-site and external medical and mental health providers to meet the
  • health needs of clients
  • Provide culturally appropriate and responsive care to all clients
  • Provide crisis intervention and stabilization support for clients in emotional distress
  • Provide transportation for clients as needed to help meet their individualized goals
  • Utilize motivational interviewing as a primary tool for enhancing each clients self-efficacy
  • and sense of agency
  • Build trust with clients, helping them to develop a sense of belonging and increase their
  • overall sense of self-worth
  • Follow agency guidelines related to professional boundaries with clients, colleagues, and
  • partner agencies at all times
  • Utilize prevention and deescalation tactics to avoid violence or behavior problems, and
  • follow the escalation protocol in the event of unsafe behavior
  • Assist in supporting and/or facilitating daytime/evening programing at the REST drop-in center
  • Maintain self-awareness, monitoring and regulating personal responses to stressors in
  • order to maintain personal health and demonstrate professionalism in often complex and high stress situations
  • Attend monthly WARN meetings and work to enhance partnership and collaboration with
  • other WARN agencies
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings, quarterly REST meetings, and other meetings as
  • assigned by supervisor
  • Maintain confidentiality as per agency guidelines
  • Maintain 100% compliance related to reporting for WARN to meet the requirements of the
  • grant
  • Maintain case notes and files in an orderly, up-to-date manner
  • Complete monthly reporting for both REST and WARN
  • Other duties as assigned
  • QUALIFICATIONS
  • Preferred: multi-lingual, Spanish preferred
  • Bachelors degree in social services or 2+ years working with vulnerable populations
  • Must have a history of demonstrating a person-centered and trauma-informed approach to
  • care for victims of trauma
  • Knowledgable on the topic of sex trafficking, the sex trade, and labor trafficking
  • Must be able to work in harmony with REST’s Statement of Faith and demonstrate REST’s organizational values of belonging, honor, tenacity, and trustworthiness
  • Ability to respond to crisis and/or escalated behavior with calm and confidence
  • Ability to self-regulate and maintain professionalism in high stress situations
  • Self-aware with issues related to power, privilege and difference, with a desire to build
  • bridges across difference
  • Able to effectively contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion in group environments
  • Ability to organize, discern, and problem-solve creatively and under pressure
  • Demonstrates initiative with researching and accessing relevant resources in the community
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent interpersonal and professional skills
  • Flexible - able to respond to leadership directives in a timely manner
  • Must have reliable transportation, current auto insurance, and clean driving record
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs and lift up to 30 lbs
  • SCHEDULE:
  • Typically Mon-Fri, though occasional evenings and/or weekends are expected
  • HOURS:
  • 40 per week
  • LOCATION:
  • Based out of the REST office, but many clients will be met in the community at various locations throughout King County

SALARY:

$18.50 - $22.50 (DOE)
