  • Reports To: Program Director, Extended Learning
  • Location: 60% at P.S. ARTS Office, Los Angeles; 40% at school sites
  • Schedule: General office Hours 9AM – 5PM, but must be able to work some nights and weekends
  • Designation: Part-time Temporary, Non-exempt: 20 – 25 Hrs. / week through June 30th, 2020.
  • Salary Range: $18 - 21/hr.

P.S. ARTS is dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing arts education to underserved public schools and communities. P.S. ARTS is the only organization in Southern and Central California that provides yearlong arts education in dance, music, theater and visual arts to every child in a school during the regular school day. Without our programs, children in these underfunded school districts would not have access to the arts.

Position Summary:

The Program Assitant, Extended Learning (‘Assistant) is responsible for the coordination, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of P.S. ARTS’ Inside Out Community Arts (IOCA) program and other Extended Learning (EL) programs as they develop. Extended Learning programs includes after-school and week end programming held at schools and community centers; In-school arts elective middle and high school programs and any other programs not typically scheduled during a regular school day. The Assistant works under the guidance of the Programs Director, EL and provides logistic support for special projects and events.

As will all P.S. ARTS employees, the Assistant takes part in a comprehensive performance management program including weekly department meetings along with one-on-one meetings with the Program Director, EL to track progress on goals, a mid-year check-in and an end-of-the-year performance review. The Assistant also models P.S. ARTS values of Art/Creativity, Community, Equity, Innovation and Excellence.

Qualifications and Training:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Technical theater and/or production management skills
  • Strong administrative skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines
  • 2+ years of experience in the arts education field, strongly preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, Constant Contact, and Atlas, strongly preferred
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English, strongly preferred

Responsibilities:

General Program-related

  • Work with the Director of EL to ensure program quality, impact and accessibility;
  • Actively participate in community building in and across partner schools;
  • Facilitates Idyllwild Scholarship Program, including acting as primary point of contact for Idyllwild administration and faculty and scholarship recipients / guardians;
  • Represent P.S. ARTS at convenings and events as determined by the Program Director, EL;
  • Prepare and or contribute to programs-related content for social media, newsletters and all other
  • P.S. ARTS-related publications as needed, i.e. Constant Contact;
  • Participate in other P.S. ARTS community engagement activities as required.

Faculty Development and Management

  • Support Programs Director, EL with faculty recruitment, training, logistics and materials procurement;
  • Monitor faculty compliance with P.S. ARTS policies and expectations, including curriculum delivery and evaluation protocols;
  • Provide guidance and support to faculty as determined by the Programs Director, EL;
  • With support from the Volunteer Coordinator, facilitate and organize program alumni and parent volunteers.

Program Management

  • Coordinate school-site logistics, including scheduling classroom spaces;
  • Generate all EL program-related communication (applications, forms, flyers, playbills, permission slips, etc.);
  • Coordinate and prepare all training, event and workshop materials (i.e. field trips, performances, etc.);
  • Provide on-site technical, logistical and administrative support during workshops, performances, field trips, theatre intensives, events and meetings, as designated by the Program Director, EL;
  • Clean and maintain costumes / props / program storage.

Working Conditions:

  • Perform work while seated at a desk for several hours at a time
  • Regularly lift up to 40lbs
  • Travel and attend meetings and events outside the office, which may require occasional use of a motor vehicle for transportation to other locations. Due to responsibilities requiring travel to locations not easily accessible by public transportation, driving is an essential job responsibility for this position. Valid driver’s license required. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
