Job Title:                           Staff Accountant

Reports to:                       Controller

Supervises:                     None

Employment Status:    Regular Full Time

FLSA Classification:      Non-Exempt

 

Job Purpose: This role is responsible for core financial functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, deposits and maintenance of files.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Prepare monthly and quarterly invoices to funders.

·        Prepare grant reports to funders.

·        Assist with month-end and year-end closing of the books including preparation entries, schedules and reconciliation of ledgers.

·        Prepare fixed assets and depreciation schedule and related journal entries, ensuring that fixed assets are properly classified.

·        Perform various general accounting functions such as journal entries, account reconciliations and special reports.

·        Enter cash receipts/ bank deposit.

·        Assist with the preparation of audit work papers and provide accounting records as required.

·        Act as back-up for Accounts Payable processing.

·        Maintain accounting/banking information for the Youth IDA bank accounts.

·        Perform on-going management of organizational credit card tracking and assure receipt of all required documentation for posting.

·        Maintaining the salary allocation information.

·        Participates in agency-wide training on fund development and role as an OPP ambassador.

·        Handle any appropriate responsibilities and functions as assigned by supervisor and/or director

Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Accounting is preferred. Significant experience in bookkeeping and an Associate's Degree will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.

·        Experience working in a financial office preferred, but internship experience and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

·        Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

·        Thorough knowledge of accounting theory, concepts and practices applicable to accounting requirements of funding sources.

·        Strong mathematical and analytical skills for monitoring accounting records and resolving accounting problems.

·        Ability to effectively communicate accounting information, policies, and/or procedures in a manner easily understood by customers.

·        Computer literate with experience in Microsoft Office. Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge accounting software is required.

·        Good organizational and time-management skills.

·        High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

·        Teamwork skills.

·        Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.

·        Knowledge of Federal, state and local grant funding, reporting and audit requirements preferred.

·        Experience with grants accounting and restricted revenue management is preferred.
