The Search


The National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) seeks a self-motivated Accounting Associate to join its collaborative finance team, which is responsible for maintaining the organization’s financial records and systems.

The Role

The Accounting Associate will process contracts, vendor invoices, as well as cash receipts for the National Women’s Law Center


Specific responsibilities include:


Accounts Payable:

  • Set up and maintain contracts/PO’s in accounting system
  • Organize and process vendor invoices and employee expenses, including coding to proper account and project
  • Reviews all invoice payments and employee expense reports for compliance and required receipts
  • Match invoices against contracts, and maintain contract current available balance
  • Reconcile and process credit card payments and credits
  • Cut checks and prepare ACH payments
  • Sort, scan and archive hard copy documents.
  • Investigate and resolve payable issues with vendors
  • Prepare adjustment journal entries as needed
  • Prepare journal entries related to the month end close process, including reconciling Accounts Payable and Employee Reimbursement subledgers
  • Summarize historical information in preparation for NWLC’s annual audit. Prepare 1099 forms and electronic files
  • Cash Receipts:
  • Review and record all cash receipts ensuring accuracy of methodology and accounting
  • Enter all cash receipts into Raiser’s Edge ensuring accuracy of information
  • Process check deposits using remote deposit capture
  • Process all credit card receipts utilizing multiple systems to obtain data and input into Raiser’s Edge and GL.
  • Sort, scan and archive hard copy documents.
  • Reconcile contributions on a regular basis to ensure all contributions received have been recorded properly.
  • Prepare adjustment journal entries as needed
  • Prepare audit schedules
  • Prepare journal entries related to the month end close process
  • Other:
  • Develop process documentation for all processes
  • Automate and streamline processes to enhance accuracy of data while minimizing manual efforts
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Key Relationships
  • The Accounting Associate will report to the Manager, Cash and Payables. The Associate will collaborate with other Finance and Development team members, as well as the VP of Finance and Administration.
  • The Ideal Candidate
  • The Ideal Candidate for this position will possess the following attributes:

  • Genuine passion for an understanding of the mission of the National Women’s Law Center and women’s rights issues.
  • 2+ year of experience handling high volume Accounts Payable and Cash Receipts, as well as a strong understanding of the Accounts Payable and Cash Receipts cycles. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and have current work experience with financial and accounting systems (Microsoft Dynamics, Intacct or similar applications).
  • Experience with fundraising systems such as Every Action, and Raisers’ Edge is preferred. 
  • Demonstrate a strong attention to detail and the ability to work with minimal supervision, and possess self-discipline with the ability to effectively prioritize. 
  • Must have positive attitude, sense of humor and be a team player who can work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. 
  • Must have the ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule when required.



A minimum salary of $42,400 will be provided to the successful candidate having at least two years of relevant experience or an Associates Degree in Applied Science/Accounting or Bookkeeping. Compensation will be both competitive and commensurate with the successful candidate’s background and experience.
