Among the Phillips’s esteemed programs are its award-winning education programs for educators, students, and adults; well-established Phillips Music series; and sell-out Phillips after 5 events. The museum contributes to the art conversation on a global scale with events like Conversations with Artists and the International Forum. The Phillips Collection values its community partnerships with the University of Maryland—the museum’s nexus for academic work, scholarly exchange, and interdisciplinary collaborations—and THEARC—the museum’s new campus serving the Southeast DC community. The Phillips Collection is a private, non-government museum, supported primarily by donations. 


POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Manages and coordinates the museum’s K-12 educator initiatives, including Prism.K12. Strategically innovates and implements digital programs and resources for K-12 audiences. Innovates teacher participation and engagement with museum.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work closely with developers and K12 teachers to test, update and maintain Shake Up K12
  • Maintains and updates Prism.K12 website and adds new features as needed
  • Engages educators online and in person with Prism.K12 methodology using the museum’s digital resources, including social media
  • Develops, implements, and assesses all aspects of the Prism.K12 initiative, including technology
  • Contributes to ongoing museum-wide digital initiatives, collaborating and communicating interdepartmentally and with museum leadership
  • Collaborates with K-12 team to design and implement a robust and innovative K-12 portfolio of programs, including Art Links to Learning, Prism.K12, and Phillips@THEARC
  • Manages all aspects of teacher programs, including regional Evenings for Educators, and professional development for teachers both on- and off-site, including developing programming, coordinating, and evaluating events.
  • Develops and manages creation of educational and teacher resources in print and digital formats, including resources for Prism.K12 website and social media
  • Manages relationships with K-12 educators locally, regionally, nationally, and globally, including in-person and online engagement (including via social media, video conferencing, and webinars)
  • Collaborates interdepartmentally on publicizing, marketing, and social media to scale K12 initiatives
  • Collaborates with Development staff including grant writing and reporting for K-12 programs
  • Maintains, synthesizes, and applies current knowledge and research on K12 digital and museum education theory and practice; researches exhibitions and the permanent collection when relevant to K-12 engagement
  • Works with diverse teacher and student populations locally and nationally
  • Advocates for Phillips programs and initiatives through online presentations, local, national, and global trainings, workshops, and conferences including periodic travel
  • Hires and supervises contracted vendors, educators, and designers; manages relationships with contractors
  • Creates and maintains organizational systems for teacher programs, including mailing lists, budgets, financial records, program statistics/reports, and database management
  • Conducts and coordinates evaluation research related to principle functions


POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Education, Museum Education, Digital strategy or a related field OR commensurate experience
  • Three to five years full-time experience in education, technology, and/or museums
  • Must possess a broad knowledge of Arts Integration, modern art, K-12 learning theory, and museum practices
  • ·       Understanding of new technologies for K-12 education and museums
  • Experience with website management (Drupal or other CMS) and social media such as Pinterest and Twitter
  • Ability to manage digital projects with external contractors and technical developers
  • Comfortable communicating digital projects at all levels of the organization, including senior management, K12 and museum educators
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience developing and maintaining websites, social media, and emerging technologies
  • Teaching experience with understanding of K-12 learning
  • Demonstrated capacity for strategic and innovative thinking
  • Demonstrated management experience, including proven success supervising staff
  • Prior experience managing relationships
  • Ability to work effectively on teams as collaborator or leader
  • Excellent organization skills, follow-through, and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated experience with diverse populations
  • Capable of handling multiple deadlines and projects
