Title:  Director, School Programs and Community Engagement

Department:  Artistic Programming

Supervisor:  Artistic Director

Employment Type: Full Time, Exempt

Caramoor Center for Music & the Arts is currently seeking qualified candidates for the role of Director, School Programs and Community Engagement, with an anticipated start date in June 2021.

Our mission is to enrich the lives of audiences through innovative and diverse musical performances of the highest quality, mentor young professional musicians, and engage children through interactive, educational experiences that deepen their relationship to and understanding of music. These three

prongs – music performance, musician mentoring, and music education – infuse everything we do.

Located in Katonah, NY in northern Westchester, Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit arts center founded in 1946.   Encompassing 80-acres, Caramoor presents 50-60 live music performances throughout the year, culminating in a major summer season starting in June and going through early August.

Caramoor was the summer home of Lucie and Walter Rosen, music and art lovers who opened their home to the public for people to enjoy concerts and be inspired by the beautiful gardens, historic buildings, and art collection.  A wide variety of music is presented including classical, jazz, American roots, world, American songbook, family programs, and more.

Caramoor also trains the next generation of classical musicians and provides music-based arts education to local schoolchildren.  Through its public programs and community events, Caramoor serves approximately 40,000 people annually.

Most of Caramoor’s school programs, unchanged for 20 years, were retired at the end of the 2019/20 school year.  Following a recent formal assessment process, we now seek to reimagine and redesign our educational offerings to fully reflect the mission and unique assets of Caramoor, as well as embark on intentional community engagement work.

This newly-created position will oversee the strategic development and implementation of Caramoor’s school and community engagement programs, with a goal of serving the area within a 30-45 minute radius of Caramoor. Working as a part of the Artistic Programming team, this position will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with educators in K-12, area colleges and universities, teaching artists and community partners, and managing the utilization of the Diane Moss Education Center.

The first few months will be heavily focused on strategy, building relationships, and piloting new programs.   Additional staff and resources may be added in the future as dictated by growth of activities.  We’re looking for an individual to help us build a new playbook!

Caramoor has a unique opportunity to provide programming year-round, particularly during the summer months with families and community groups, while school programs are concentrated during the academic year.  Caramoor's investment in Sound Art is an educational resource that can be accessed by both groups during warmer months.
