Senior Fellow for Climate Security

ASP is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated individual to serve as its senior fellow on staff, focusing primarily on climate security. This field of study also includes the relationship to infrastructure, military readiness, resilience, and energy security. The individual in this position will be tasked with the day-to-day and strategic needs of ASP’s climate security program, and the supervision of ASP staff and interns working on climate security or related fields, such as IUU fishing. The Senior Fellow for Climate Security will craft a research and policy agenda in line with ASP’s interests and shape programming to fulfill ASP’s grant obligations. Applicants should have a strong background in the security aspects of climate change and have a solid understanding of the impacts of climate on military facilities and readiness.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervision and management of ASP’s climate security program and IUU fishing program, including work on energy security
  • Working with ASP staff to organize and prepare events relating to climate security, both in DC and throughout the country
  • Participation in and moderation of event panels
  • Regular short form article writing
  • Working with the Director of Strategic Communications and Development to increase ASP’s funding stream
  • Briefing policy makers and key individuals on matters relating to climate security

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s or PhD preferred.
  • U.S. citizenship or U.S. work authorization.
  • Extensive academic or practical policy experience researching climate change and/or its effects on security.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Fundraising or grant writing experience is desirable.
