AIA Seattle is one of the largest architectural associations in the US, with an inspiring community of members who are passionate and engaged in our changing city. AIA Seattle is seeking an Associate Director of Business Development to grow and diversify earned and contributed revenue and manage and oversee the Operations Team, which includes communications and finance. 

Goals of Position

· Contribute to long-term growth strategy for the organization

· Manage the organization’s annual fundraising and membership campaigns

· Create new diversified sources of revenue

· Lead and manage Operations Team to foster a cooperative and harmonious working climate to maximize employee morale and productivity


Essential Job Functions

Planning

Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive and integrated business plan for AIA Seattle, including Design in Public and the Center for Architecture & Design

· Manage and engage board leadership in business planning

· Create a diversified multi-year business plan that includes measurable goals, strategies, and tactics

Membership Development

Develop and implement strategies to maintain and grow membership in all categories: individuals, firms, and allied professionals

· Execute an annual membership recruitment plan

· Oversee member communications, and work with communications team on a strategic communications plan

· Oversee annual membership billing and renewals, and monitor membership renewal rates

· Conduct member outreach and collect member feedback as needed to inform member recruitment and retention efforts

· Work with national membership staff to coordinate membership efforts


Sponsorship

Lead corporate sponsorship programs for AIA Seattle and Design in Public

· Manage Development Committees for AIA Seattle and Design in Public

· Run and grow annual sponsorship campaigns, and oversee development of fundraising tools

· Increase sponsor benefits, retention and satisfaction

· Provide leadership, tools and training to enable board members to achieve their fundraising goals

· Oversee sponsor recognition and fulfillment of benefits

· Oversee online advertising sales to sponsors and prospects


Fundraising

Lead charitable giving efforts for the Seattle Design Festival, exhibits, and other public programs  

· Assess current and future program offerings for funding potential

· Develop grant funding targets, and oversee grant writing and reporting

· Manage Design in Public’s board giving

· Oversee annual fundraising breakfast

· Collaborate with other staff and committees on Travel Scholarship fundraising

· Explore the possibility of a shared fundraising event for all Center partners

· Explore the potential for new fundraising opportunities


Management

As a member of the Management Team, create policies and structures that support individual staff members and build a vibrant, cohesive team

· Manage the Operations Team, including hiring, annual reviews, onboarding, documentation and redundancy planning, and individual personal development

· In partnership with Management Team, set personnel policies and standards, invest in staff morale and team training, make decisions about compensation and benefits, plan retreats, and address personnel challenges

· Manage the Operations Team’s workload to optimize capacity, and oversee systems analysis, general operations and customer service

· Architecture or design background is not requited, but a fluency in design topics and interest in the built environment is highly desirable


Job Qualifications

· Requires BA Degree or equivalent

· Minimum 5 years of related experience in membership, fundraising, partnership and business development or related work

· Knowledge of and connections to design and construction industry strongly preferred
