Are you an amazing 18-25 year old? If not, do you know one?
At City Year Chicago, 242 highly trained young adults, our AmeriCorps members, work full-time in 29 Chicago Public Schools for 11 months. They are student success coaches, providing individualized supports to at-risk 3rd-9th graders. We partner with schools and districts to identify students who are at risk of not graduating on time with their peers, and provide them with extra academic, emotional and social support and skills that they need to be successful for college and a career.
City Year AmeriCorps members provide one-on-one or group tutoring before, during and after school to help students work through their academic challenges. Lead energetic morning greetings for the whole school to create more encouraging learning environment. Run after school clubs and service projects to give students a positive and safe activity to participate in. Take attendance and call late or absent students to encourage them to come to school. Make positive phone calls home to fill parents and family in on the progress that's being made. Organize and lead activities, celebrations and projects to improve the school and community as a whole.
While you are serving as an AmeriCorps member you will receive a $1,260/month living stipend, $5,920 education award, basic health coverage, federal student loan forbearance, access to $3 million in exclusive graduate school scholarships that cover 25-100% of your tuition, Chicago Transit Authority pass, City Year uniform and discounted housing options.
