Description

The American Lung Association has a great opportunity for a Coordinator, Health Promotions to join our incredible team in the Upper Midwest Region.  Working as a member of the Health Promotion & Education Team, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease, through research, education and advocacy. 


In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating the communication strategy of Wisconsin’s statewide youth tobacco prevention advocacy program (FACT) based on evidence-based health education and Tobacco Prevention and Control Program (TPCP) priorities. This is a grant funded position.


Responsibilities


  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop strategies for helping teen FACT members, their adult advisors and other tobacco prevention partners communicate their message to Wisconsin teens, community leaders, the media, and the general public via a variety of outlets (social media, earned print/TV/radio media, grassroots marketing, and other local communications opportunities).
  • Create evidence-based content with the goal of increasing target audience engagement of Wisconsin teens in grades 7 through 12 through social media, a monthly e-newsletter, and incentive mailings. Support FACT Manager with communication to youth & adult partners statewide.
  • Maintain an ongoing social media editorial calendar for multiple platforms. Research emerging social media platforms, trends, best practices and tools to continuously improve reach and return on investment; establishes and tracks metrics linking social media to organizational goals. Create and distribute original multimedia content incorporating visual and storytelling elements: photos, videos, infographics, etc.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to write and edit press releases, media advisories, letters to the editor, presentations and speeches.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to FACT members, adult advisors and other tobacco prevention partners regarding social media, garnering earned media, messaging tips, public speaking, storytelling, interviews, developing talking points and other communications strategies. Develop and build relationships with TPCP Multi-Jurisdictional Coalitions and Networks throughout the state. Provide timely responses to stakeholders’ requests for information.
  • Support the creation and dissemination of youth-focused prevention messaging and activities. Contribute to the development of newsworthy FACT activism/grassroots marketing ideas utilizing insights from FACT’s Youth Board of Directors.
  • Coordinate FACT’s incentive program by tracking incentive inventory, mailing incentives to youth members and developing ways to increase target audience engagement through these direct mailings.
  • Attend and actively participate in local and regional meetings, including representing FACT on committees and work groups, as assigned.
  • Report on outcomes monthly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in communications, public health or related field.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in communications, public/media relations, journalism and advocacy preferred; experience may include internships.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) including public speaking.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with diverse audiences. Ability to interact well with both adults and teens.
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and remain flexible with work activities and schedule.
  • Skills in social media content creation for professional purposes.
  • Computer proficiency; competence in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Hold valid driver's license and be able/willing to attend events as requested. (Travel/mileage reimbursed according to ALA policy).
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Ability to travel to meetings or conferences at the state and national levels, as needed.
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs. (supplies).
