Bigelow Laboratory invites applications for an education coordinator to carry out the administrative duties of our education programs. The salary band for this full-time (37.5 hours/week) position is $36,179 - $50,635 per year, with a generous benefits package including health care, retirement contribution, and paid time off.


Duties and Responsibilities

The Education Coordinator manages the administrative and logistical needs for all education programs and workshops, including but not limited to: advertising; managing applications; applicant and participant communications; purchasing; arranging travel, lodging, and catering; setup and takedown; and evaluation. They coordinate the administrative functions of all Laboratory-owned residences, and develop policy, regulations, and processes to ensure an equitable and safe experience for student visitors to our campus.


This position serves as the main contact for education and outreach inquiries to the Laboratory and assists with fulfilling engagement requests, including coordinating: guided tours of the Laboratory and the volunteer docent program; educational and outreach activities held at the Laboratory or offsite such as school visits; and student volunteer opportunities. They act as the Project Lead for the Laboratory-wide annual Open House event.


The Education Coordinator provides general education support as otherwise requested by the Vice President for Education or the Education Committee to carry out the strategic initiatives and mission of the Laboratory, such as financial aid, messaging and branding, alumni database and website updates. They propose recommendations for program improvement, with special attention to the participant experience, and support improving many aspects of programming, including marketing/recruitment, alumni engagement, and event management.


Requirements

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, customer-service, and organizational skills are most important for this position; a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in education, business administration, or a related field and/or experience in working in customer service, administration, or with nonprofits preferred
  • Is positive, professional, and outgoing while interacting with a variety of people and fulfilling a wide range of duties
  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with many departments, including Communications, Advancement, and Facilities
  • Ability to work independently, establish work priorities, and manage time effectively
  • Has a proactive, thoughtful approach to serving others and a strong work ethic and sense of teamwork
  • Demonstrates integrity and honesty while dealing with confidential information
  • Ability to manage processes and stay organized
  • Has knowledge of and aptitude for basic computer processes like email, calendar management, and Microsoft Office suite


The person in this position must be able to work infrequent evening and weekend hours, with advance notice, and is required to have a valid driver’s license and the ability to complete errands as needed for the Laboratory.
