Gallery/Studio Program Instructor

The primary role of the Gallery/Studio Program Instructor is to teach adult painting in fall 2020. The individual in this position should also be comfortable teaching a range of art-making techniques and methods in both 2-D and 3-D. Candidates from backgrounds underrepresented in the field of museum education are especially encouraged to apply.

Requirements:

  • B.A. or B.F.A. in visual arts, education, art history, or a related field
  • At least one year of museum education experience
  • Be a reflective educator with a strong painting practice
  • Excellent gallery and studio teaching, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • A demonstrable commitment to the Museum’s vision of art as a catalyst for a connected, civic, and empathetic world

Additional qualifications:

  • A strong desire to work with young people and/or adults
  • Experience teaching on Zoom

Responsibilities:

  • Conceive and teach Gallery/Studio Program art courses in a semester of five to ten classes
  • Instructor to provide their own Internet access and computer to teach fall 2020 classes online
  • Attend one planning and one wrap-up meeting per semester
  • Communicate regularly with the Art Classes and Camps Coordinator throughout the semester about students, supplies, and any matters of interest
  • Facilitate evaluation in the final class
  • If teaching a class of students under the age of 12, supervise two teen work-study students who will assist with the class

Position type: Part-time, temporary

Union status: Non-union

FLSA status: Non-exempt

Work schedule: Three hours per week, Saturdays or Sundays, between 9 am and 6 pm. This is a temporary position through fall 2020, with the potential to be rehired for spring 2021.
