SUMMARY

The Program Associate provides administrative support to the Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) program, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. FLEX (www.discoverflex.org) is administered by American Councils (www.americancouncils.org) and provides a life-changing, one-year scholarship exchange opportunity in the U.S. for approximately 900 competitively selected secondary school students from Europe and Eurasia.

 

Primary tasks include administering and growing the program’s robust social media platforms, assisting students at Dulles airport during travel, supporting the student medical review and clearance process, and processing student applications and documents.

 

Responsibilities necessitate that some work be performed during non-business hours such as weekends, early mornings and/or evenings. The Program Associate reports to the FLEX Senior Program Manager.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and implement a year-round strategy for supporting FLEX program social media platforms, including developing basic graphics for posts, crafting and scheduling posts, soliciting material from program constituents, and leading targeted social media campaigns;
  • Recruit and train students to act as “social media specialists” during program year special events in Washington, DC;
  • Maintain and regularly update the FLEX website;
  • Organize training meetings for medical professionals and support them and overseas staff throughout the participant medical review process;
  • Assist arriving and departing students at Dulles with check in, security, finding their gates;
  • Advocate for students in case of cancelled or delayed flights, or other travel problems;
  • Represent American Councils to travel vendors including hotels, airlines, airport and ground transportation staff;
  • Assist with directing a group of temporary airport staff;
  • Provide backup support to the Senior Program Officer for on-program support paperwork as needed; and
  • Assist with special large-scale student workshops and year-end events in Washington.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills
  • Experience coordinating international travel for large groups
  • Experience successfully administering social media accounts
  • Familiarity with Django web framework preferred
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to an overall team effort
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with cultures and geography of the target countries
  • Experience with educational programs in the U.S. and international programs preferred
