Description


Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) combats extreme poverty and gender inequity in Kenya by linking tuition-free schools for girls to a set of high-value, holistic community services for the urban poor. In our model, a girls’ school becomes a portal for large-scale social change.

Through a demand-driven approach in grassroots development, our model extends beyond the schools for girls, broadening outreach by providing communities with integrated basic services through three other initiatives: health, community empowerment, and clean water and sanitation.


Position Overview


The Development Associate plays an important role in supporting and participating in all aspects of SHOFCO's fundraising and communication efforts. S/he assists the development and communications staff in the management and stewardship of the agency's donor database, supports donor relations and provides administrative support. The Development Assistant reports directly to the Chief Advancement Officer.


Responsibilities


Administrative


  • Serve as administrator to the Development Team and provide assistance to all areas as needed, including executive assistance to the Chief Advancement Officer
  • Manage various SHOFCO tracking documents for institutional memory
  • Handle logistics for quarterly Board Meetings
  • Assist with event planning and scheduling
  • Proofreading and editing documents
  • Assist in production and distribution of promotional and development materials
  • Manage and send out SWEP products via etsy store



Development


  • Manage development data entry in Salesforce, including Kenyan donations
  • Prepare all donor acknowledgments, including digital and print
  • Conduct prospect and donor research
  • Provide general campaign assistance (e.g. sort and prepare mailing lists)
  • Produce donor reports, as required, and track results of campaigns and activities
  • Create monthly donor reports that reconcile with financial records
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations for various development engagements
  • Serve as Salesforce and data report lead for U.S. office
  • Run Salesforce development reports for the US office as needed
  • Develop and implement quarterly development dashboards and aggregate progress against goals (for all subjects: individuals, foundations, corporations)
  • Manage internship program


Communications


  • Serve as first point of contact to general SHOFCO inquiries (phone, email and website)
  • Serve as point person for SHOFO College Chapters


Sponsorship


Manage Sponsorship Program, including but not limited to:


  • Onboard and provide full circle communications to new and current sponsors
  • Assemble twice-annual sponsorship packets
  • Track all sponsorship payment
  • Provide systematic sponsorship acknowledgement
  • Liaise with SHOFCO Kenya Fellow as it pertains to Sponsorship
  • Track all sponsor gifts and visits
  • Manage sponsorship@ email inbox


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2 years administrative/non-profit experience preferred
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office required, SalesForce a plus)
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
