The Baltimore Museum of Art seeks a full-time applications developer to build, maintain, and research and recommend software to fulfill the needs of a variety of public-facing digital applications. We need a hands-on professional who enjoys writing clean code, explaining technical concepts to non-technical colleagues, and working in a space that can encompass everything from ideation to execution. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with extensive LAMP stack experience and a healthy curiosity for new technologies. This position reports to the Chief Innovation Officer (CIO).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee technical administration of BMA website, including maintaining development and production environments with version control, and cloud-based server environment.
  • Work with designers to rework design comps and prototypes into fully-functional digital tools for a variety of audiences on platforms ranging from websites to mobile apps and in-gallery kiosks.
  • Keep abreast of web standards and WCAG guidelines and make recommendations on coding practices the Museum should follow.
  • Supports various departments with management of databases, including ones organized using TMS by Gallery Systems, Piction (DAM), and Raiser’s Edge, among others.
  • Advise on, code, and troubleshoot in-gallery digital experiences.
  • Build custom landing pages, donation forms, sign-up forms, campaign and exhibition websites.
  • Research new software and advise on purchasing decisions


REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years’ experience working as a web or application developer.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a LAMP stack, with JSON, and APIs.
  • Demonstrated experience working with PHP package managers like composer
  • Working knowledge of javascript libraries such as NodeJs, React and jQuery
  • Working experience with javascript frameworks and package managers like GruntJS, NPM
  • Eagerness to research and experiment with emerging technologies for both online and physical experiences and how they might be applied in a Museum setting
  • Understanding of best practices for building secure webpages and working with third-party platforms for managing donations, memberships, ticket purchases, etc.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and good judgment
  • Highly skilled at working with open source content management systems, and familiar with the pros and cons of working with each of the major platforms (WordPress, Drupal, etc.)

Familiarity with Microsoft SQL servers, Stripe Payment API and SendGrid API a plus
