FUNCTION: This position has direct responsibility (12 hours per shift) for the day-to-day operation of a housing site.  Youth Counselors will maintain and supervise a safe, affirming environment for residents to meet their needs, build skills, and progress on goals.  They provide one-on-one and group programming and oversee the functioning of the site.  Youth Counselors must be organized and able to work and solve problems independently and communicate effectively with supervisors.

TOP RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor and supervise residents in program to provide a secure, clean respectful, hospitable, professional and secure environment by:
  • Recording individuals entering and exiting the site
  • Completing walkthroughs and room checks to account for the wellness of residents onsite
  • Ensuring chores are completed daily, per shift
  • Preparing and supervising meals daily, per shift
  • Addressing and de-escalating conflict among residents onsite
  • Supporting residents pre, post and during crisis
  • Document and complete incident reports and fire drills  
  • Providing regular and timely updates to program team and supervisors as necessary, including through daily shift updates, per shift
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and weekly supervision including; Mandatory In-Service, Resident Advisory Board, Case Conference
  • Facilitate individual and groups activities
  • Document daily individual and group services through progress notes and group notes

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent) required
  • Training/Experience in youth social services required
  • Computer knowledge and competent writing skills required

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be able to work independently and with teams.  Experience working with adolescent/young adult population required.  Knowledge of psychosocial needs of LGBTQ/homeless population is helpful.  Experience in individual and group behavioral counseling.  Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, weekends and holidays; may include overnight shifts.  Youth Counselors are required to remain awake for the entire duration of their shifts.Transgender & gender non-conforming people are encouraged to apply. SHIFT INFORMATION:

Full Time: Scheduled for up to 40 hours per week, 8 - 16 hour shifts, 3 - 5 days per week

Part Time: Scheduled for up to x hours per week, 12 - 16 hour shifts, 2 days per week

On Call: Scheduled for at least 2 shifts per month, 8 - 16 hour shifts
