Match Charter Public School is a free, high-performing charter public school in Boston. We are a PreK-12 school serving 1,250 students. OVERVIEW OF ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Our high school has an opening for a College Counselor to cover as a long-term substitute during 2021-22 school year. The position would start in November, 2021 and likely continue until April, 2022. The role is based at our high school location on 1000 Commonwealth Ave, Brighton, MA.  

The College Counselor is needed for a critical time in the college and career process - when students are finalizing their college applications and submitting their FAFSA applications. Key job responsibilities are to: 

  • Serve as a member of a five-person College & Career (C&C) team;
  • Support team in providing college application advising to seniors through individual 1 on 1 meetings, and weekly C&C counseling classes;
  • Participate in weekly team meetings to plan for effective and efficient support of students and families;
  • Assist in coordinating on-time completion of financial aid application and family income documents;
  • Co-Deliver college readiness lessons to 9th-11th graders to prepare them for college visits and the college and career process, including content related to summer enrichment opportunities and resumes;
  • Chaperone college trips, group visits to college, and career fairs;
  • Support students in accessing summer programs, off-site programs, and competitive multi-year opportunity programs;
  • Support the tracking enrichment program applications, acceptances, and participation.
  • Organize and maintain college office files, application data, financial aid records, and proof of financial eligibility;
  • Uphold high academic and behavioral expectations for students, and provide lots of support for getting students there;
  • Participate actively in Match’s coaching and professional development programming;
  • Assist with school programming as needed during non-instructional time; and
  • Serving as a positive and collaborative member of the Match Charter Public School community

QUALIFICATIONS

  • a bachelor’s degree;

  • strong oral communication and writing skills;
  • high attention to details and meeting deadlines, especially regarding application paperwork, files, records, systems, and data tracking;
  • ability to anticipate potential factors that could impact the meeting of deadlines. Flexibility and creativity in making adjustments to meet deadlines is essential; and 
  • ability to inspire and motivate young people.
